Unique DIY Cakes That Look Too Good To Eat (And Some That Didn’t Turn Out As Planned…)
They say, "cooking is an art, but baking is a science," and as an avid home baker, I couldn't agree more. Some cakes are crafted so beautifully that they almost seem too flawless to eat—more like pieces of art meant for display.
Yet, for every cake that’s a true masterpiece, there’s another that looks like it was decorated by someone who was either blindfolded or a little tipsy. Sometimes, it’s definitely best to leave certain jobs to the experts.
An Untraditional Baby Shower
Instead of the usual pink or blue for a baby shower, this novice baker took a more unique approach.
Covered in multiple shades of green buttercream, accented with a white drip, and topped with gold sprinkles, this cake is sure to wow every guest. Its stunning appearance might just tempt any expectant mom to devour the entire thing in one bite.
Eat My Pants
The Simpsons have long been celebrated for their vibrant characters and memorable catchphrases that remain hilarious even decades on, like "Everything's coming up Milhouse!", “Me fail English? That’s unpossible!”, and “...I was saying boo-urns.”
While Bart’s iconic “Eat my shorts” is a fan favorite, it seems this aspiring cake decorator didn’t share the same enthusiasm for the show.
The Resemblance Is Uncanny
Cake decorating isn't an exact science—it’s an art that demands patience, proper tools, and a steady hand. Bless his heart, this husband had none of those.
That said, credit where it’s due: he did manage to capture He-Man’s iconic flowing locks.
A Daughter’s Birthday
Hiring a professional baker is often the simpler choice, but some parents prefer to put in extra effort to make their child's birthday truly special.
This parent definitely falls into that category. With rainbows, My Little Pony toys, and vibrant balloons, their daughter is bound to think her parent is the world’s greatest baker.
Walt Disney Does Not Approve
Who is this cheerful little creature meant to represent? Why, it's none other than the beloved cartoon duck who famously goes without pants—Donald Duck!
However, this version doesn’t quite have Disney’s charm. Instead, he looks like he’s been through a wild three-day binge and is now paying the price—or maybe he just crawled out of the depths of hell. Honestly, it’s hard to say.
The Buttercream Queen
This husband is so impressed with the incredible cakes his wife makes that he can't help but brag about her skills to the world.
At this point, if she hasn't started her own bakery, she definitely should.
Perfect For A Bridal Shower
With its vanilla flavor, white chocolate decoration, and adorable rosé wine bottle accents, this cake seems like the ideal treat for a bridal shower or bachelorette party.
It brings together the two greatest loves of my life: cake and wine.
Flower Power
Piping buttercream flowers might seem tricky, but with some practice, anyone can get the hang of it, and it's a breathtaking way to embellish an otherwise simple cake.
This amateur baker has clearly mastered the technique, and their flower cakes are truly artistic. If their cakes are this beautiful, I can’t help but wonder how gorgeous their garden must be!
Happy 21st Birthday
Every girl likely remembers playing with Barbie dolls as a child, and by the time adulthood rolls around, those dolls are often swapped for bottles of alcohol.
This baker chose to capture that transition for a friend's birthday. If a vomiting Barbie doll on a cake paired with a bottle of Fireball doesn't impress her, I'm not sure what will.
A Thing Of Beauty
With its stunning decorations, flawless candy melt drips, and vibrant frosting layers, this cake is so beautifully crafted that even Willy Wonka would be impressed.
Are they available to make my next birthday cake?
Paleontologist Meets Artist
While baking itself is a science due to the complex intertwining of ingredients during the baking process, decorating the desserts is a true art.
Not only is this user a talented baker, but they're also a phenomenal artist. As a kid, what’s cooler than a dinosaur-themed birthday cake?
Fun With Florals
Perfect for springtime, this cake is decorated with perfectly piped flowers and sprigs of greenery. Referred to as a “wreath cake,” it’s so pretty that it should be hanging on someone’s front door.
Although I don’t know what’s more impressive. Their floral piping skills or penmanship.
The Tropics Are Calling
When you think of a wedding cake, you probably think of a multi-tiered cake covered with white fondant and decorated with delicate pastel pink flowers. This cake is none of those things.
Baked for a wedding, this cake is topped with macarons, colorful flowers, and most striking of all, tones of red, yellow, and orange, and topped off with a gold drip. It’s making me want to grab a piña colada, lie on a beach lounger, and eat a slice of cake while I watch the sunset.
Don’t Hurt Mommy’s Feelings
Unfortunately, sometimes DIY cakes backfire spectacularly, and in this case, the saying “it’s the thought that counts” definitely applies.
Whether it was supposed to be Bulbasaur from Pokémon or maybe a green cloud with legs, we’ll never know. But this photo is so spectacular this family needs to proudly display it on the fireplace mantle. The longer he smiles the more he dies inside.
Get Out Of My Swamp!
So this person tried to do their friend a solid and bake them a Shrek-themed cake for their birthday. The operative word here is “tried.”
This cake is so hilariously decorated that even Shrek thinks it’s ugly (and he’s an ogre).
A Very Friendly Hedgehog
What was supposed to be a hedgehog chocolate cake soon turned into the stuff of nightmares. It looks like it wandered straight out of a Tim Burton movie. I want to know the person who looked at this cake and thought to themselves, “You know what this cake is missing? Teeth.”
If I can’t ever unsee this photo again then neither can you. Sweet dreams.
Let’s Play A Game Of Leap Forg
Now I’m no animal expert, but I don’t think that’s what frogs actually look like, and I doubt the person who made this cake has ever actually seen a frog.
Somewhere, Kermit the Forg is wondering why they massacred his brethren like this.
Miles Is Not A Fan
Imagine being told that as an homage to you, a loved one is baking not only your favorite flavor of cake but also a cake that looks like you.
Now imagine you’re a cat, and this is what they present. See, now this is why cats hate people.
Ice Cream Is In On It Too
And now we've discovered that it's not just cake you need to worry about, ice cream cakes are bringing a whole new level of panic to our lives.
Is your dog really a dog, or will he melt if left in the sun?
Red Velvet Ribs
We're usually more of a smokey barbecue or honey garlic ribs kind of person, but red velvet with lemon cream frosting probably wouldn't be the worst flavor for a rack of ribs, right?
Outback Steakhouse should add this to their dessert menu.
