According to the United States Supreme Court’s official website, Ronald Reagan kept a campaign promise to appoint a woman to the Supreme Court after Justice Potter Stewart retired in 1981. His nomination was Sandra Day O’Connor, who he described as a “person for all seasons.” Since she was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on September 21, it seems they agreed.
