How Your Favorite Celebs Go All Out For Valentine’s Day
If you're in love, one of the sweetest times of the year is Valentine's Day. It's an opportunity to show your other half how much you love and appreciate them. But there's a lot more you can do then just give them a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates, particularly if you're famous.
Celebrities are known for their over-the-top gift ideas, and Valentine's Day is no exception. And while money can't buy happiness, it can buy a lot of cool things. Check out some of the things celebs have done over the years to demonstrate their love and affection...
Proposing With A Giant Engagement Ring
One way to celebrate your love for your significant other on Valentine's Day is by getting engaged. And Orlando Bloom proposed in a big way by giving Katy Perry a giant engagement ring. They posted a picture of themselves on Instagram surrounded by heart-shaped balloons and the flower-shaped ring.
Perry captioned the pic "full bloom" and proudly showed off the flower-shaped ruby and diamond ring. It's believed the jewelry cost the actor at least $250,000. Apparently there's no limit to how much you should spend when expressing your love.
Posing Seductively In Lingerie
In 2019, Miley Cyrus showed her love for husband Liam Hemsworth by posing provocatively in lingerie and posting the pic on Instagram. She also shared six images from the pair's secret wedding ceremony. She eventually deleted the NSFW photo, but fans were delighted to see pics of her wedding dress and other special moments from the event.
Unfortunately, the couple announced their separation less than a year after tying the knot. They had been together on and off after meeting on the set of the 2009 film The Last Song.
Taking A Rose Bouquet to Another Level
Rapper, singer, and producer Travis Scott has been dating reality star Kylie Jenner since 2017, and the pair welcomed their first child together, Stormi Webster, in February 2018. Just after Stormi turned one year old, Scott made sure to show his appreciation for his girlfriend by throwing her an epic Valentine's Day.
The musician delivered several (huge) rose arches to her home and set them up in the living room. A bunch of lit candles added to the atmosphere. Kylie said of the gesture that she "must be dreaming!!"
Gifting A Necklace Worth $8 Million
Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham started dating soccer star David Beckham back in 1997. The pair have been together ever since (and have been married since 1999). In 2006, the athlete showed his love for his wife by giving her a diamond Bulgari necklace on Valentine's Day that was reportedly worth a whopping $8 million.
Can money really buy happiness? Well, the couple has been married over 20 years and have four children together. They're both very successful and appear to still be going strong after more than two decades together. So perhaps money can buy happiness.
Throwing A Surprise Birthday Party
Before singer Joe Jonas and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner tied the knot, the musician showed his love for his sweetie by throwing her surprise birthday party for Valentine's Day. He did so in 2019 because "she's the... best," he wrote on Instagram along with photos of the couple surrounded by red and pink balloons.
The couple wed three months later in Las Vegas and then held a larger wedding ceremony in June of 2019. Turner was recently featured in a Jonas Brothers video for "What a Man Gotta Do" alongside the wives of the other band members.
Emptying Out An Entire Flower Shop
While Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are no longer together, at the beginning of their relationship things were pretty hot between them. After just a few months together, Bieber showed his love for Gomez on Valentine's Day by spoiling her with tons of flowers. In 2011, he bought out an entire flower shop and gave her roses, tulips, and daisies.
He allegedly paid over $2,000 for all the flowers. The couple dated on and off from 2010 until 2018. He later went on to marry Hailey Baldwin.
Celebrating On The Beach In Costa Rica
Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady had an extra special Valentine's Day in 2018 because they were celebrating more than just their love for one another. The pair was also celebrating the Patriots' win at the Super Bowl just a couple weeks earlier. What better way to kick back and relax than at the beach?
Gisele posted a picture of herself kissing her husband in Costa Rica. She wrote in the caption, "Sending so much love to all!" There probably won't be a repeat this year because the Patriots were locked out of the Super Bowl.
Spending The Day In Paris
If you really want to show your love on Valentine's Day, one of the best ways to do it is to take him or her to one of the most romantic place on earth: Paris! In 2016, then husband and wife Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston spent the holiday in France. Justin posted a picture of Jennifer looking out a window from the Eiffel Tower.
The couple got together in 2011 and tied the knot in 2015. Unfortunately, the union didn't last, and they separated two years later. But I'm sure their Valentine's Day in Paris was one they'll never forget.
Being Serenaded By Kenny G Surrounded With Roses
In 2019, Kanye West employed Kenny G to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on his saxophone for Kim Kardashian. We must point out that he did so in a room covered in long-stemmed roses. Kenny said that West reached out to him to do the performance.
"I didn't know him real well, but I was obviously flattered. He could not have been more welcoming," he said of the experience. The saxophonist and West later talked about doing a collaboration in the studio.
Giving The Gift Of A Symbolic $20,000 Olive Tree
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were together from 2005 until 2016. The pair was one of the hottest celebrity couples around, and fans were devastated when the actress filed for divorce 11 years after they started dating. But when things were good between them, they were very good.
In 2010, Angelina honored Brad on Valentine's Day by giving him a 200-year-old olive tree worth around $20,000. The olive tree symbolizes peace, stability, and longevity and was for their estate in the South of France. Too bad the traits of the tree didn't work for their relationship.
Gifting A Platinum-Covered Cell Phone
Back in 2009, Jay-Z bought his lovely wife Beyoncé a very special cell phone that's said to have cost a whopping $24,000. What type of phone did he get for that money? A platinum-covered one, of course.
We can only hope that the platinum in the phone enhanced its reception and let the loving couple exchange sweet messages to each other while they were busy traveling for their musical careers.
Getting An Antique Carousel Horse
Nothing says love like a vintage carousel horse, right? When former Friends star Courteney Cox was married to actor David Arquette, she gave him a special gift on Valentine's Day in 2010. She spent $45,000 on an antique carousel horse. She certainly gets bonus points for creativity.
Unfortunately, the gift wasn't enough to keep the pair together, and they separated six months later after 11 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2013. They have both since moved on to other relationships.
Singing A Duet Together
When you're one of the world's most romantic singers it makes sense that you'd want to honor the love of your life by singing to her. But what's even better is if you sing with her. That's exactly what singer/songwriter did with his supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen.
In 2018, the model posted a video on Instagram of the pair of them singing "L.O.V.E." together. It was absolutely adorable and the definition of couple goals. Now if only every husband and boyfriend had a good voice like Legend...
Tying The Knot
In 2015, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter tied the knot at the St. Peter & St. Paul Church, Isle of Wight, on Valentine's Day. The English actor is known for playing Sherlock Holmes as well as Dr. Strange in the Marvel Universe.
He and theater and opera director Sophie were friends for nearly 20 years before they wed. The couple have two sons and are still very happy together. This is perhaps a testament that Valentine's Day weddings are a great idea.
Tying The Knot In Paris (and Italy)
It's one thing to get married on Valentine's Day and it's an entirely another thing to do so in the city of love, Paris. That's exactly what Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault did in 2009. They followed this up with a second wedding ceremony in Venice, Italy. Ooh la la!
The couple tied the knot two years after welcoming their daughter, Valentina (who interestingly has a Valentine's Day-inspired name). It probably was a bit helpful that Francois is a French billionaire.
Being Showered With Balloons And Flowers
You may know Rob Dyrdek as the host of the MTV show Ridiculousness. The reality TV personality is a former professional skateboarder who obviously has a tender heart. In 2017, he showed his love for model Bryiana Noelle Flores by showering her and their baby with flowers and balloons on Valentine's Day.
He wrote on Instagram, "Everything you do, everything you are, everything we have together, that is true forever love, my Valentine, my wife."
Enjoying Breakfast In Bed
As we already mentioned, you don't need a lot of money to show your loved one some appreciation on Valentine's Day. In 2016, NHL player Brooks Laich honored his then-fiancee, dancer and TV personality Julianne Hough, by making her breakfast in bed. She was thrilled by the gesture and posted a picture of the meal on Instagram.
The pair appear to be in the midst of a rough patch and "are going through something very personal," according to sources. Hopefully, they can make things work.
Relaxing In The Desert
Actress Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical fame spent a relaxing Valentine's Day in 2016 with then-boyfriend Austin Butler. The pair celebrated the romantic holiday in Sedona, Arizona, which is known for its arts community and spas. It must have been a very peaceful vacation.
The couple first got together in 2011 and spent nine years together before breaking up in 2020. They reportedly talked about being engaged before ultimately breaking things off just a month shy of Valentine's Day.
Going To The Movies
Sometimes celebrities are just like everybody else, which means they like going to the movies as much as we do. In 2017, Mark Wahlberg went to the movies with his wife Rhea Durham, but it was a bit of a sacrifice for him because he let her choose the film.
He posted a funny pic on Instagram of himself with his wife about to go in to see Fifty Shades of Grey. He captioned the pic, "Verified I never get to pick the movies anymore. Happy Valentine's Day!"
Showing Love To Their Children
Let's face it: Halle Berry hasn't had the most successful love life. She's been married and divorced a couple of times and seems to have had a hard time finding the right person to share the rest of her life with. She does, however, have a couple of kids whom she absolutely adores.
In 2017 she posted a picture of herself with her children and a large bunch of Valentine's Day balloons. Her kids were also wearing adorable heart-shaped headbands. She used heart emojis for the caption, showing that love shows no boundaries.
