A man who made sports more enjoyable to watch than they are already are, Stuart Scott was a one of a kind, pioneering sports broadcaster for ESPN. He helped open doors and made it cool to be yourself. Unfortunately, he had a long and tragic battle with cancer.
Scott’s courage and willingness to stare fear in the eye was unmatched. There couldn’t have been a better recipient of the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the 2014 ESPYS. “When you die, that does not mean you lose to cancer,” he said in his speech. “You beat cancer by how you live.”
