Buzznet Exclusive: Paradise Fears’ Sam Miller Fills Us In

Paradise Fears are currently on tour, and we caught up with the band’s singer Sam Miller after their Philadelphia show to find out how the tour has been going and what makes these boys so special! Take a look and you can catch them on tour until June 17th!

Tell us about the tour so far. What have the shows been like?

The tour has been insane. We’ve only had two, but both sold out, and based on the volume of those rooms, it felt like we were playing stadiums. People were so incredibly receptive and supportive.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

I think our influences are constantly evolving as we do. When we started, it was very much Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, All Time Low, and Mayday Parade. But we’ve grown to develop more eclectic tastes, so a lot of our new music is influenced more by melodic rock, like Parachute or The Script, much more pop stuff, like Maroon 5, and then the honest lyricism of artists like Lupe Fiasco, Childish Gambino…I don’t know. I really like rap music.

How would you describe your band to someone who has never listened to your music?

I call us Passionate, Lyrical, Alternative, Pop Rock. I think that’s vague enough.

Do you guys have any nicknames for each other?

Oh yeah, most entirely coined by our merch guy Anthony, or Twan. People call me, Sam, “Twa” because it evolved from my twitter name (samtwomiller), which became Sammy Two, then Sammy Twa, now just Twa. Cole is Candre, Jordan is Brutal, Michael is Guns, Marcus is Marky, Lucas is Lou or Butey…I don’t know. Just now in typing those I’ve realized how weird they are.

How do you like to spend an off day on tour?

Usually a lot of sleeping, frequently it involves a lot of driving, but if not, then we JUST relax. We’re not very good at group activities/ tourist stuff.

Keep up with the boys on their official Facebook page and here on Buzznet!
