Buzznet Exclusive: Getting To Know Let It Happen

Let It Happen are a pop/rock band who are on the rise. They have recently worked with Nick Diener fromThe Swellersand are heading out on tour withOf Fourtuene and Fame. Their songs are perfelctly pop/rock and are worth putting on your musical radar. Let’s get to know more about the band — from their influences to their celebrity crushes.

How did Let It Happen become a band? How did you guys meet?

We all grew up in the same area and went to the same schools. We all met each other in high school and kind of hit it off as friends, and having a common interest in music, Sean, Michael, and I started jamming and forming projects here and there. After cycling in and out of various metal projects, Sean and I chose to gather our best friends (and coincidentally the best musicians we knew) to do something different and years later Let It Happen is still going strong! You guys are about to go on tour with Of Fortune and Fame, what are you most excited for?

From what I’ve heard so far the music is fantastic and something that I can actually get into so I’m stoked to be able to get acquainted with their live set. We always have a good time on tour and they seem like great dudes so I expect nothing but a blast! What’s the story behind your band name?

Well, it actually didn’t start as any sort of profound thing or anything, we were just sitting around on the back porch after practice looking through iTunes for some inspiration for a band name and one of our favorite bands Jimmy Eat World came on. It was the song “Let It Happen” and we all just really liked how that sounded. On the other hand, the name has done nothing but gain depth over time. All my eggs have been in this basket for years now and after everything I’ve been through I’ve learned that most often the best course of action in any situation is to just let go and let things happen. Life has a way of sorting itself out and everything ends up how it’s supposed to be. What has been the craziest thing that has happened to you on tour?

I’ve slightly lost track of some of my tour experience due to my terrible memory, but most of our trips end up being generally absurd. I can say that on our last run some kid wanted a free shirt and ended up running up a wall and doing a back flip off of it for one. Obviously we had to give him a free shirt. The song “You’re Killing Me” features Nick Diener from The Swellers. Who else do you dream of working with?

Say Anything has been one of my favorite bands since high school and I would freak out if I ever got to work with Max Bemis. I think the depth and creativity that we could possibly exchange would do wonders for both my music and perspective. What inspires you guys when you’re writing together?

As odd as it may sound, with all of us being slightly overwhelming individuals, I think a lot of time it comes down to being extremely determined to conquer our stubbornness and come together to produce meaningful well done music. It’s kind of like we all enjoy pushing our limits together in some way and I’d like to think it makes for a decent product. How would you describe your sound?

Aside from simply saying that we are an upbeat, energetic pop rock band, I think we can define it with something a little deeper. We really strive to create an honest approach to music. I want people to see as equals because we’re living life just like everyone else. We make the same mistakes and go through the same things and I try to emulate that in our music. When you listen to our music, I want people to hear the sound of living life to the fullest. What is the bands pre-show ritual like?

I have to admit that we’re all really stubborn and generally lazy people. Hahaha. We usually enjoy just hanging out with people at the show and getting to know everyone before we play, but about 30 minutes before we play we all just tune up all of our equipment and loosen up. For me it’s very important to situate myself mentally and it took me a few years to realize it. When you’re on stage in front of so many people you don’t know it can become a very uncomfortable place to be and dealing with that sometimes take a lot of concentration and focus and the only way you can achieve that is under a calm and relaxed state of mind. It can be an intense process and you need to be prepared for when it is. What songs do you guys sing in the shower?

This is a completely true fact; Nine out of ten times I’m listening Every Time I Die and I cannot for the life of me resist getting seriously riled up and singing so much. Sometimes I even get so into it I forget I was taking a shower to get clean and find myself jamming for like ten minutes… Who are you’re celebrity crushes?

Zooey Deschanel is a perfect creature. Also Sierra Kusterbeck from VersaEmerge not only looks beautiful, she has the voice to match it! When you guys aren’t touring what is your favorite thing to do?

I really enjoy the outdoors. I spend a lot of free time going on hikes and adventuring through the wilderness. I’ve been fishing since I was a toddler and it’s my close second to music as far as obsessions go. Nature has a strange way of relieving the weight of our everyday lives and provides a fresh and pure environment that for some reason makes your problems seem much less complicated. I wrote “Hide and Seek” about a trip I took with some of my closest friends at the time to Red River Gorge and how it helped me through such a difficult time. I strongly suggest anyone who needs to gain some clarity and find some peace and quiet to just take a good amount of time to just go out side and witness how simple life actually is.
