Where have all the good girls gone?

Finally catching up on some of my Rolling Stone magazines and just read an article that shocked me.

There is a culture influencing youth that represents a lot that I totally disagree with. I defiantly remember what it was like to be 15 years old and searching for someone to emulate and look up to — but it seems like there are really slim pickings these days.

I want to reinforce a few points to teens out there. Being well read is cool, being witty is intriguing and being pretty is not the only thing that makes you attractive. You can be a good kid and have just as much fun as all ‘edgy’ ones. At the end of the day people will like you because of the things that you SAY not because of image you portray. They will fall in love with your kind heart and understanding of empathy. That is what makes people stick around.

I have a 13-year-old niece that I am scared for her generation. Who can they look to for inspiration? Who projects confidence, self-respect and tenacity? Who is campaigning that having an original idea or thought makes you cool?

It is absolutely part of being human to want to look pretty, we all do — but do not lose sight of what truly makes you beautiful.

Honestly I am hardly shocked by popular culture — but right now I am. Where have all the good girls gone?

I have made it all of my life as a good kid. It is possible.

Sorry for the rant.
