Is Less Really More?

Americans have an obsession with owning things. We see hundreds of advertisements a day, whether it be on TV, in magazines or on the sides of buses, so it’s no wonder we purchase unnecessary junk. Most people could afford “designer” clothes if they simply curbed their desire to buy and buy and buy. Would you rather own one amazingly crafted suit by, say, Yves Saint Laurent, or five that were cheaply made by little children chained to sewing machines? The majority of high-end labels such as Balenciaga, Hermes, etc, make sure to use top quality fabrics and supply their workers with proper work benefits as well as fair wages. Their pieces last a lifetime rather than just one season.

Should we cut down on our consumption of cheaply made goods and simply buy a few well made items that are “built to last?”

One of these….

(Yves Saint Laurent)

Or five of these?
