Seeking Dreams……Chapter Four

About a half an hour later the girls reach the café.

“I’ll stay here while you go meet egg-head over there, I can see him now” Emily says now sitting at a table looking over at the other side of the café.

“Ok, you sure your ok with this, just sitting here?” Gabrielle asks her.

“Yeah. You and Rob need to talk it out by yourselves. And you don’t need me to play massager or something. I’ll just order a salad and drink and chill while you do you thing, ok?” Emily reply’s smiling.

“Ok, here I go then” Gabrielle says now standing straight and putting on a stern face.

“Looking good. Good luck” Emily then says.

“Thanks”

Gabrielle then walks over to the booth where Robert is on his laptop.

As she walks, Robert looks up and then jumps to his feet.

“Gab? Is that you?” he asks in a daze.

“She looks so different….”

“No. It’s the Queen of Hearts taking a break from Wonderland” Gabrielle says stiffly.

“Wow he got tall….”

The two then hug, Robert putting more into it then Gabrielle.

“So how are you?” Robert then asks as they sit down.

“Fine I guess…you?” Gabrielle asks.

“Doing very well” Robert reply’s.

He then goes off into a string on how he got here and all, but Gabrielle doesn’t really care.

All she wants to know is why.

Why, after years of growing up together and falling in love since third grade, did he just suddenly up and leave her.

As he rambles on, she can’t help but see how grown up he looks.

The once kinda short dirty blonde haired kid is now a six-foot tall clean-cut man.

Has it been so long since she last saw him?!

Robert at last ends his babbling and then says, after a short pause, “So I guess you have some questions to ask me huh?”

“Yeah actually, the big one really is why you left me high and dry years ago” she says stiffly.

Robert sighs and then says smiling sadly.

“I had to go to England. Your father wouldn’t have it any other way”

“My father…?”

“Yes. You and I both know he had some major hang ups about us being together”

“And now I know why”

“No, you don’t. I would have never have left if he wouldn’t do what he said he would do”

“And what was that?”

Robert lets out another sigh before he goes on.

“About a week before I left, one night I went to your house while you were out with Emily and, asked your dad for you hand in marriage”

Gabrielle’s mouth falls open to that.

Meanwhile, Emily at the other side of the café actually chokes on her salad.

“You what?” Gabrielle then mutters.

“Yeah. I loved you very much, and still do really. And I wanted us to be together. So I asked you dad if I could marry you before I asked you, thinking he would at least like the idea of me being proper and all. But no. He said no. So I said fine, just trying to be proper, but I’m just gonna ask her anyway. And he said if I did, not only would I get my head blown off, which I saw coming, he would also send you off to a boarding school till you were done school, and at the time you had a year and a half to go. That’s what got me. I know how much you were afraid of him sending you off, since he was always talking about it. So he said that if I just disappeared, nothing would happen to you”

“So you took off to England?”

“Yeah, had a job offering there. I was gonna marry you first, then we would move there. I know how much you love it there. Remember that one summer trip?”

“Yes, it was wonderful. And I also remember how much it hurt when you didn’t call anymore or come over. And we had a date that night you asked daddy, remember?”

“Very well, I had the ring in my pocket the while night. Was gonna ask you after the movie when we went on our stroll in the park like we always did, on the little wooden bridge crossing the lake, your favorite spot”

“Yes, well those days are gone now Rob. You could have at least called me to let me know what the hell happened that night! Or weeks after!”

“I know, but I really didn’t want to cause you any trouble!”

“And that weighed out more then me going out of my mind for weeks on end?! God if it wasn’t for Emily, I would have been in the nut house!”

“Please, you must understand, it killed me not being with you, and I knew that the minute I called your father would find out!”

“But still, you could at least told me that night, instead of just running away like a little bitch!”

“I just want you to know the truth, and maybe get back together”

“No, I’ve hears enough. And you know what? The only reason why I came here was to do something you never gave me the chance to do. Say goodbye”

“Gabrielle please…”

“Goodbye Robert”

And with that, Gabrielle gets up and swiftly walk out the door, leaving Robert still in mid-sentence.

Meanwhile, Emily now asks the waitress for the check and pays it quickly.

Then she tares out the door after Gabrielle.
