New To Me – Bands I Just Discovered At Coachella 2009

All aboard the last train to Lateville! These bands have been rocking for some time, yet I just discovered them. Maybe if I wasn’t so busy making the internet safe I would be on the good foot with what’s hip these days. Without any further ado, here are the acts I just found out about this year at Coachella 2009.

The crazy thing about festivals is that there is so much going on all at once. That can be both bad and good, but chances are, there’s something for everyone. Kron made me say that I was going to find at least one band that I had never heard about but instead, I found two. I’m probably a little late on just finding out about The Hold Steady and Buraka Som Sistema but better late than never, right?

The Hold Steady travel by way of Brooklyn but have strong ties to Minneapolis/St. Paul area. They have a really classic sound and an amazing stage presence.

The Hold Steady

Chris Finn – Vocals/guitar

Tad Kubler – Lead Guitar

Galen Polivka- Bass

Franz Nicolay – Keys & Accordion

Bobby Drake – Drums

Check these blokes out if you ever get the chance. Defintely worth it!

Buraka Som Sistema

All I can say about this group is that they were amazing. They have a sound that really got the crowd moving, as their beats are hard to deny. You couldn’t stay still to this if you tried. They have a sound that’s labeled as “Kuduro.” Sistema sounds like a mix of breakbeats, heavy percussion, latin, hip hop, and electronica/techno. It’s like they took everything about a lot of the music I love and made a million times better.
