Chasing Shadows……Chapter Twelve

At work, 1:22 pm:

Gabrielle fly’s onto the elevator and then heads down to the lobby.

A few seconds later she’s walks out, and then sees a guy holding flowers.

“Are you Gabrielle?” the guy asks her.

“Uhhh, yeah, I’m her” Gabrielle says now in wonder.

“These are for you” the guy then say with a smile, and then he hands her the flowers.

“Thanks” Gabrielle says.

“Oh don’t thank me, thank…” the guy says, stopping to look at the card to check the name, “Oh, thank Jared” the guy then finishes the sentence.

Gabrielle turns white and nearly drops the flowers.

“Have a good day Miss” the guy then says to her walking out the door.

As he walks out, Emily then passes him walking in holding a tray with two coffees in them.

“Hey there you are, was gonna come up and give you this, my treat!” she says now walking up to Gabrielle.

She then sees the flowers she’s holding and then says, messing around, “Aww are those for me?! You shouldn’t have!”

“I didn’t, he did” Gabrielle mutters.

“Huh? Wait, do you mean Shannon?” Emily says almost dropping the coffee and then grabbing the card on the flowers to read.

“Their not for you…I….” Gabrielle says, and then she suddenly shoves the flowers to Emily and then walks into the lobby ladies bathroom.

“Whoa whoa wait!” Emily says now going after her.

Emily then walks into the bathroom to find Gabrielle splashing water on her face.

“Why can’t he just leave alone?” she moans now drying her face.

Emily then looks at the card real fast and sees the flowers are from Jared and they’re for Gabrielle.

“Oh god, dude!” Emily then mutters to herself.

“I donno, he likes you…?” she then says to Gabrielle.

“Jesus do I have to walk up to his face and tell him “I hate you”?!” Gabrielle then says shaking her head.

“I donno Gabs. Hey, there’s a message on the back” Emily then says now turning the card over.

“What does it say?” Gabrielle asks now walking over Emily and looking at the card with her.

Then suddenly a group of giggling women walk into the bathroom.

“Lets go up to my office and read this” Emily then says giving shady eyes at the group, whose eye’s are already all over the flowers and card she and Gabrielle are holding.

“Yeah, hate a crowed” Gabrielle says giving the group a dirty look and then she and Emily walk out the door and then they head upstairs to Emily’s office.

“So, what does it say?!” Emily asks Gabrielle the second they walk into hr office.

Gabrielle then reads it out loud to her:

Hi Gabrielle!

I know I’m not really on your good side right now, and I know I came off as a really bad person when we talked at the center, and I’m really sorry.

I just meant of what I said that, I thought it would be cool if you and I hung out after the show and talked more, I was about to go on stage soon and I wanted to talk to you more.

I in no way had any ideas on trying to get you to sleep with me are anything like that.

And I wanted get you and Emily the front row seats because I like you.

And I really didn’t think about Emily at the moment I asked you to hang out with me, which I know was very stupid.

I’m really really sorry that I made you mad.

I can totally understand if you don’t forgive me.

But please call me anyway.

Here’s my number….

And then there’s a cell phone number on the bottom of the message, and then a sentence underneath it:

Hope to talk to you soon!

And if not, then I’ll see you around 🙂

Gabrielle looks up at Emily from the note after reading it.

“Well, you have to give the man credit, he’s got guts” Emily says shaking her head.

“Yeah, to bad no brain” Gabrielle then says now tossing the note into Emily’s trashcan.

“Now that’s cold” Emily says shaking her head at her.

“Whatever I have no time for this shit. Want these?” Gabrielle says to her, now holding up the flowers.

“Sure, just put them on my desk and I’ll find a vase for them, or something” Emily says sighing.

“Ok, I gonna go and get one of my many report’s done now” Gabrielle says now setting the flowers on Emily’s desk.

Then as she walks out the door, Emily says to her, “Wait! Do you want a ride home at four? You can take off if you ask Jim”

“Um, will did you get the ok to get off?” Gabrielle asks her in wonder.

“Yeah, just walked into Jim’s office all set to give him some kind of bull, but then the minute I brought up taking off early and he was like, “Sure! You can even take off earlier if you would like!” And I was like, “ Uh no that’s ok, just the hour would be fine” H seems to be in a very good mood” Emily says.

“Whoa” Gabrielle says in shock

“Your telling me! So how about it?” Emily then says.

“Um, nah I got to get a load of stuff done. I’ll take the bus home or something” Gabrielle says.

“Oh ok then. I’ll stop by when I going” Emily says.

“Ok!” Gabrielle says now walking out the door.

A few hours later:

While Gabrielle is typing up yet another report, there’s a knock on the door.

“Hey! I’m going now!” Emily says walking in when Gabrielle says come in.

“Ohhh! Ok, have fun! If you need anything just call me!” Gabrielle says hugging her.

“Ok!” Emily says hugging her back, and then she runs out the door.

“Oh! My closet is open if you can’t find anything to wear M!” Gabrielle calls after Emily.

“Oh cool! Thanks!” Emily yells at her waving as the elevator door closes.

A few more hours later:

Gabrielle is now the only person left in the office building.

Everyone else has gone home.

She’s almost done her very last report.

She takes a break after a while and walks into the break room for some food and coffee.

She wonders how Emily’s date with Shannon is going as she makes a new pot of coffee.

Her thoughts then suddenly turn to Jared and the flowers he sent her.

He really didn’t have to do that.

And even if he did want to just get into her pants and that was all, he wouldn’t heave sent flowers and a message with apology’s all over it.

Maybe he does like her, and just wanted to talk to her more.

As she walks back to her office, she walks past Emily’s office.

She suddenly stops at her door.

“I wonder” she says to herself, now going into the office.

Emily always locks it when they go home, but since Gabrielle is leaving later, she knows she’ll check to see if it’s locked and then lock it herself.

Gabrielle then walks over to the trashcan.

Yeah, the message is still in there, untouched and not all ripped up.

“Should I?” Gabrielle asks herself now picking up the note.

She then sits in Emily’s chair behind her desks and thinks for a while.

Then, she suddenly, and maybe even rashly, makes up her mind. She then takes out her cell phone and starts to dial a number.
