Controversial, extremely talented, and a confident swagger that would make his mama proud, Kanye West is arguably today's most discussed about rapper/producer. Despite reaching popularity among musical insiders when his sounds as a producer appeared on Jay-Z's The Blueprint, Kanye didn't become a pop-culture icon until the release of his debut album The College Dropout in 2004. This album featured the hit songs "Through the Wire" and "Jesus Walks".

It's a non-voting category on MTV.com but that doesn't mean we can't weigh in! (I pretty much just copied and pasted the little blurbs from the VMA voting website) P.S.
