Times Celebs Flirted on Social Media and Nobody Could Take It
The world loves it when celebrities collide. Feuds are all well and good, but there's nothing better than watching A-listers try and flirt online. It sends fans into a frenzy, and well, reminds us that we're not that different after all.
You might think that celebs can get a date whenever they want, but sometimes a thirst tweet has a part to play in sealing the deal. From bromances to straight-up sexual tension that couldn't be left unchecked, let's take a look at times celebs flirted on social media for the world to see.
Hailey Bieber and Shawn Mendes
Before Hailey Baldwin was Hayley Bieber, she was sending out thirst tweets to teen heartthrob Shawn Mendes with the best of them. In 2013, she said, "Hey Shawn Mendes, let's date so you can sing to me all day. I'm joking but not really."
The unfairly good looking couple did go on to officially date, but not until 2018. It was a short-lived fling, and as well know, Baldwin moved on to marry her ex-flame Justin Bieber in November of the same year after a short engagement. We'll always remember the Mendes-Baldwin moment with fond memories, but look at what we have now.
Ryan Reynolds and David Beckham
Ryan Reynolds is Hollywood hot property, and married to one of the most beautiful, intelligent and talented women in the industry to boot. But while there's been plenty of online flirting between him and his wife, Blake Lively, we're here to talk about Ryan and soccer legend David Beckham.
Reynolds posted a snap of himself in a car to his Instagram page, and the British sportsman couldn't help replying: "God you are handsome @vancityreynolds." Two beautiful men, appreciating one another. Everything is right for the world. Of course, considering that both are happily married and all, we're not naive enough to think this really means anything. Still, DAVID BECKHAM AND RYAN REYNOLDS.
Eminem and Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj isn't in the press a lot for her romantic liaisons. It's usually her feuds that make the front pages. Remember the time that she threatened to shoot Mariah Carey when they were both judges on American Idol, or that very public battle with Cardi B last year?
Since the rapper is usually embroiled in that sort of drama, fans were delighted to see a little bit of back and forth banter between Minaj and none other than rap God Eminem. When asked if the two were an item, Minaj said yes. Em quickly replied with, "Girl you know it's true." The exchange ended with Nicki saying, "Babe I thought we were going to keep it on the low til the wedding." We're pretty sure it was just a simple joke between friends, but still. Shook.
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian
What happens when you combine the greatest tennis player of all time with an obscenely rich, romantic guy? Billboards, that's what. Initialized Capital co-founder Ohanian was so moved by his wife's parenting skills that a simple card wasn't going to do it for Mother's Day.
The businessman arranged for four billboards to go up in Palm Springs, California, featuring Serena and the couples' then 5-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia. Written across the sweet candid was "GREATEST MOMMA OF ALL TIME". Ohanian shared a picture of the billboards on his Instagram account, with Serena commenting, "Literally am crying. This is so sweet. I love you." And we can't even get a card on Valentines Day, but whatever.
Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas
Fans could spot this one coming a mile away so it was hardly surprising that they tied the knot last year in a very upscale ceremony.
They weren't always private about their feelings either, especially in the beginning. After a sneaky Los Angeles dinner date, Nick commented on a picture of Chopra saying, "That smile." The internet went wild, especially when Chopra returned the compliment on a picture of her beau cuddling a koala at the zoo. "Who is cuter? Lol," wrote the star. Things continued to heat up and well, now here we are with Mr. and Mrs. Jonas.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik
Let's face it, we all shipped this relationship hard. The two began dating after Gigi appeared in Zayn's video for "Pillowtalk". Malik struck up a public conversation with the model by tweeting her, "You seen the video babe? Someone's looking (thumbs up emoji)." Hadid responded, "Nah must have missed it...jokes...I wasn't looking at myself, trust me."
Holy flirtation, Batman. Queue a lengthy on-off romance that's been in the press ever since. After splitting and then reconciling last year, everything seemed to be going well. They were pictured holding hands a few weeks ago, but it's since been speculated that they've called it quits once more.
John Mayer and Nicki Minaj
John Mayer is the male Taylor Swift. He's been in more high-profile relationships than we can count (and now, we can't shake it off). From Katy Perry to Swifty herself, Mayer has left no stone unturned. Back in September of 2017, the songwriter turned his attention to Nicki Minaj, tweeting, "I spend an inordinate amount of time per day wondering if Nicki Minaj would like me or not."
Minaj picked up on the shoutout and replied, "Would my body be your wonderland?" referring to Mayer's song. He quickly replied to say he was "losing his [mind]." Did the two ever get together? Who knows, but it's certainly not impossible.
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi B and Offset have been very vocal about their love for each other, even though they did split briefly due to his infidelity. In the grand scheme of things, the hip-hop couple hasn't been together for that long. They started dating in 2017 before getting hitched and welcoming daughter, Kulture.
They're not shy about mentioning their sex life on social media either. Back in July 2018, Cardi tweeted a picture of herself on a jet wearing lingerie, with the caption, "I'm on my way to you." Offset responded with the call to action by saying, "HURRY HURRY HURRY." Not that he was eager or anything.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are a Hollywood institution. The two have been married since 1996, eloping a year after they met on the set of All My Children. A year later they welcomed their first child, Michael Joseph, going on to have two more kids.
The actress turned talk show host posted a selfie at the dentist's office, prompting a pretty unique reply from her hubby. It's not the sort of photo that you'd expect a raunchy comment on, but that's what Ripa got. "Is it weird that this pic makes me feel a certain kinda way," wrote Consuelos. "Calling the hotline right now." In the words of Cardi B, OKUUUUURRRR.
Rebecca Ferguson and Zac Efron
This one is big. Huge. Ginormous. Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson starred together in the biggest musical number of the last few years, The Greatest Showman. Despite playing the love interest of Zendaya's character, it looks like Efron took a shine to Ferguson.
He posted a set photo of the two embracing, with the caption, "A pic is worth a thousand words. Only ones I can think of now are: wtf were u thinking dud?! Look at her!! #GreatestShowman #RebeccaFerguson." Just a few days later, he posted another one of them together, this time saying, "I finally looked," with the heart eyes emoji. Fans took that as a near enough official confirmation of the coupling, but we've had no word since.
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes could be the hottest couple in the entire world if only they took their internet energy and poured it into real life. We've lost track of the amount of heart emojis that have bounced back and forth between these two. According to some sources, they were even spotted holding hands back in January of 2018.
Fans were eager for it to happen, but it looks like it may have just been a quick fling and a lasting friendship. Cabello has been dating relationship expert Matthew Hussey since February of 2018, but that doesn't stop us going wild when she pops up on Mendes' gram.
Zendaya and Tom Holland
You know when you're a kid and your mom told you that the kid in class probably had a crush on you, and that's why they teased you relentlessly? Well, if we're following that logic, then Zendaya and her Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Tom Holland definitely had the hots for one another.
After the actress posted a picture of herself with the caption, "Stealing hearts since '96," Holland shared his own snap. "Stealing hearts since never." The songstress replied, "I hate you," before sharing a screenshot of the convo on Twitter. "I really can't stand him." The stars denied they were dating publicly, but some sources still maintain they're an item.
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller
Do you have a box of tissues handy? You're going to need it for this walk down memory lane. Ariana Grande and rapper Mac Miller started dating in 2016, spending two years together before parting ways. Grande famously got engaged to comedian Pete Davidson before calling it off shortly after Miller passed away in tragic circumstances.
Long before they even started dating, Miller frequently tweeted Grande. In 2012, he sent her a message asking to collaborate on a track with "Larry Lovestein," which was actually him. It was the first of many exchanges between the iconic pair that we'll look back on fondly.
Lupita Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan
Fans were eager for something to happen between these two Black Panther co-stars. For a while, it looked like Nuptia Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan were going to make their way to relationship status, but it never quite materialized. The actress shared a few videos on her Instagram stories of Jordan doing some push-ups, which they eventually said were simply due to a lost bet.
It certainly looked like they had a little soft spot for each other, but Jordan denied the rumors last November. "I love her to death," he said in an interview but maintained that he was happily single and not looking for anything more. Sniff.
Demi Lovato & Henry Cavill
We have to admit that this one is reaching slightly, but it does seem a little suspicious. Eagle-eyed Instagrammers noticed that the songstress followed the DC star shortly before posting a picture of herself in white lingerie. Could've been a coincidence, but we like to speculate.
She then liked two of Cavill's pictures in quick succession. The actor reciprocated the online exchange by commenting on a martial arts photo of the raven-haired beauty saying, "This is awesome! Nice one Miss Lovato!" That's as far as it went, but it was still enough to send us all into meltdown. And what?
Bella Thorne and Dove Cameron
Love her or hate her, you can't deny that Bella Thorne gives absolutely zero hecks about going for what she wants. The actress has been open about her sexuality for the past few years, even reaching out to Descendants star Dove Cameron to let her know what's up.
[Expeletive] lemme wife you up @DoveCameron," she tweeted. Cameron responded, "Get on a knee and I might letcha [ring emoji]." Cue hoards of screaming Disney fans running amock and buying hats for the wedding. Cameron has been dating her Descendants co-star Thomas Doherty since December of 2016, while Thorne has been in a polyamorous relationship with Mod Sun and Tana Mongeau since 2017. Who knows, there might be room for one more!
January Jones and Nick Viall
There's a reason why January Jones was picked to play the part of perfect Betty Draper in the hit show Mad Men. Beautifully blonde, gorgeously charismatic and every inch the talented actress, Jones knows how to work it. No one expected her to leave a heart eyes emoji on Bachelor star Nick Viall's Insta, but it happened.
When questioned about the brazen flirtation by Entertainment Tonight, Jones dismissed any other goings-on. "No, I'm single. But, he's a friend of mine and tells me lots of inside scoops," she explained. Still, it gave the internet a little buzz on a dull afternoon!
Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams
The Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland broke tween hearts everywhere when she split from Shadowhunters actor Dominic Sherwood in 2017, but she didn't stay single for long. The brunette beauty made the first contact with Bachelorette star Wells Adams in July 2017, tweeting, "Ugh! @WellsAdas making a Lord of the Flies reference on Men Tell All??? #knewhewasthebestfromthestart #menwhoreadarehot."
Adams picked up on the subtle hint and the pair went public in November of 2017. They're still going strong, living together in Los Angeles since August of last year. And it all started with that teeny, flirty tweet. Who needs Tinder?
Kelly Clarkson and Sam Smith
Sam Smith is openly gay and an advocate of LGBTQ rights, so when he had a little back and fourth exchange with Kelly Clarkson in 2017, we knew that there wasn't anything more than pure friendship there...but it was still a blessing to see.
Clarkson tweeted, "I met @samsmithworld and his entire crew of Sam's (and a Jack) today. Super sweet guy. Already loved his music, now I'm a fan of his person." Smith replied with, "You truly are wonderful in every way Ms. Clarkson. All my love forever and always. Hope to see you soon!!!" Romantic? No, but do we ship it? Yes.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
When you've been married for a while, flirting tends to turn into pulling pranks on one another. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are so completely in love that the latter bought the former a whole wildlife charity for her birthday. How great is that?
Of course, Ellen reciprocated by tweeting out a video of Portia working out to a Jane Fonda exercise tape, with the caption, "@PortiadeRossi said I could watch her do her @JaneFonda workout. She didn't say anything about filming it and tweeting it." We go wild when these two let us in on their private life.
