These Beauty Fails Just Might Make You Feel Better About Yourself
Beauty trends and standards are ever-changing, and sometimes you want to try one of those new trends but it just doesn't go the way you wanted it to. Maybe you decided rather than go to a salon, you'd just dye your hair in your bathroom at home and save yourself the money, but it came out orange. Or maybe you tried a new fad and ending up ripping off half your eyebrow...
We've all been there, and we can all feel the pain of these people who thought they had the best new look, but it ended in tragedy.
Spray Tan Tears
They always tell you not to cry after you get a spray tan, but it's one of those things that you don't really think about because why would you cry after a spray tan? Unfortunately, this girl had to learn the lesson the hard way.
The teen in question said she started to cry in her car, realized she had no tissues to stop the tears, then began to cry harder. A bit of a vicious cycle. In the end, it was okay because she went back to the salon, explained what happened and they helped her out!
Natural Tan
At-home facemasks seem like a great idea until you realize that your face is still orange after you wash off the mask because your "natural ingredients" dyed your face.
That's what happened to Sophie, who shared pictures of when she "made a turmeric face mask without actually researching it and it stained my face now I look like Bart Simpson." We're curious how long it took her to get this off, and how much scrubbing it took.
It's A New Style!
When someone says they want to chop off a few inches this isn't usually what they mean... We sincerely hope this woman didn't pay any money for this hair cut, or at the very least we hope she got a refund.
Maybe this was the result of a midnight breakdown, like when girls cut their own bangs in the middle of the night, or maybe some sibling rivalry went a little too far... No matter the reason, she's going to be rocking a bob for a while.
Tape Lift
We've all been there. You see some beauty vlogger or Instagram influencer who posts a video where she shows you how to do some new beauty fad - like using tape to give yourself a facelift - and you think "I could totally do that!"
You watch the video 10+ times, following along carefully, but instead of looking like the Instagrammer, you turn out looking like a who down in Whoville from How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
A Nail Biter
The worst part about this manicure is that it was voluntary. Someone walked into a nail salon and said: "hey can you put fake teeth on my fingers?" Even worse, the nail technician said: "hey that's a great idea, I'll definitely do that for you!"
How do you even function normally with nails like these? You'd probably break your phone screen just trying to send a text message. We're counting this one as a fail because, well, look at it.
How Does It Look?
Okay, we're no experts, and we didn't go to cosmetology school or train to be a hairdresser, but this isn't how an undercut is supposed to turn out, right?
Outside of the fact that it looks super painful, it really wasn't even worth the pain because that design definitely doesn't match the picture. At least it's an undercut so you can just hide it with the rest of your hair until it starts to grow in! Crisis (mostly) averted.
Body Slammed
Imagine getting into a taxi or walking into a room and finding the imprint of someone's face just chilling there. It'd be terrifying, but also hilarious, which is what these twitter users experienced.
The first photo was shared by someone whose father discovered after having to slam on the breaks that one of his passengers clearly wasn't wearing a seatbelt because her whole face hit the headrest. The second one was from the victim of a body slam who had just finished doing her makeup and got stuck in a wrestling match. Yikes.
Brow Be Gone
Beauty Instagrammer @townsendbeauty posted this photo to her page captioned "In short, I think we can all agree this beauty trend needs to stop it. The tail of the brow won't even lay down, no matter how hard I press, or how much glue I use!"
In case you're still confused, this influencer was testing out "brow wigs" (who knew that was a thing?) which is why it looks like her eyebrow is peeling off of her face - it's because it is.
The Perfect Tan Line
According to Twitter user Cait, this is the "delightful result" you get when you go for a spray tan for your birthday but you pull the hairnet too low onto your forehead... Looks like it's time for someone to consider getting bangs.
Shouldn't whoever set her up in the booth have helped her out with the hairnet placement? Maybe some minimum wage employee was feeling vindictive that day. Someone on Twitter compared Cait to Ross from Friends when he gets a spray tan only on his front half and honestly, they're not wrong.
It's Art, Okay?
This girl shared a picture to Twitter of the time she forgot she had a lipstick swatch on her hand and came out looking like a work of abstract art.
Remember ladies, never rub your eyes while doing your makeup, for a number of reasons. At least this girl was still in the process of doing her makeup and hadn't already left the house or something! She definitely wouldn't have been happy if she was out running errands and then realized there was something on her face.
Say Cheese!
"Wear silver eye shadow," they said. "It'll look great in pictures," they said. No one anticipated what would happen if you blinked at the wrong moment though.
These girls were just trying to get some nice prom pictures and instead got pictures that look like one of them is being possessed. At least they were able to laugh at themselves and they shared the photos on social media so others could laugh too!
From Sophomore To Smurf
"How's college going? .....well my roommate is now a smurf" wrote one Twitter user when she shared pictures of her roommates hair-dye-gone-wrong incident.
While trying to dye her hair because that's what hip, young, cool university students do, this college student managed to dye her hair purple, but she also died half of her body purple along with it. Her hands, her arms, her face and neck, all dyed purple. Hopefully one of her school colors is purple so she could play it off as school pride...
Taking Sample Sizes To A Whole New Level
It's always nice when a company sends along a free sample after you buy their products, but in order to appreciate those products they should probably not be sized for dolls.
How is anyone supposed to test out a facemask when it only covers a fifth of their face? If someone was looking to only exfoliate one of their cheeks or the middle of their forehead, they probably wouldn't buy a full face mask.
Walking Advertisement
"My girlfriend was bleaching her hair to re-dye it, and used a Walmart bag to keep the heat in... She just sent me this."
We're guessing this girlfriend's intention wasn't to turn out looking like a walking Walmart advertisement, but unfortunately, that's what happened! This is why you're supposed to use regular ol' clear plastic shower caps when you're bleaching your hair, and that's definitely what she'll use when she has to bleach it yet again.
Glue Gone Wrong
One YouTuber found herself in a sticky situation after she failed to completely think through her DIY blackhead removal trick.
Beauty vlogger Theresa SayWhat covered her face in Elmer's Glue to see if it would work as an at-home blackhead removal product, but unfortunately, she forgot that eyebrows and glue don't usually go well together. After removing the glue - and half of her eyebrow hairs - Theresa had a message for her viewers: "Don't ever, ever put glue on your eyebrows." You probably already knew that though, right?
The Painful Peel Off
Vloggers Tiff and Cari uploaded a video to their YouTube page of Tiff attempting to remove a charcoal peel-off mask that ended in actual tears.
Tiff admits at the beginning of the video that the product came in a "sketchy looking box" and shows the viewers that the label on the bottle is crooked, but she put the mask on anyways. It takes her nearly 10 minutes to peel off because she has to periodically stop to cry or yell in pain. Note to self: don't put sketchy unreliable products on your face.
Puffed Up
They say beauty knows no pain right? Seems like this woman (and her feet) would probably disagree with that.
No matter how cute the shoes are, it's probably better for your body if you can actually feel your feet right? Hopefully, this doesn't happen every time she wears them. Maybe it was just a one-time thing. This will hopefully be a learning moment for her, and her entire wardrobe turns into anything that can be worn with flats.
Taste The Rainbow
Molly shared this photo of herself to Twitter writing, "thank you facebook for reminding me of the time I accidentally dyed my hair orange and then accidentally dressed like a bag of oranges." At least she's able to laugh about it now that her hair is back to a less vibrant color (we assume.)
When will we learn that there's a reason hair salons and colorists exist! Molly learned that lesson the hard way.
Game Time
This is not the kind of before and after picture anyone wants to have, but it definitely proves you get what you pay for. One mom shared a photo of her son's hair in 2018 vs. when they took him to a different barber in 2019 for the same thing... You can probably guess which one they were happier with.
Luckily, boy's hair usually grows back pretty quickly so he'll be able to cover up that not-quite Notre Dame logo in no time!
Prim And Proper Pup
Beauty isn't just for humans, you know. "My mom got her dog's feet shaved so that they wouldn’t get as dirty when she went outside........." wrote Delayni on Twitter when she shared this picture.
This looks like the most proper pooch around. You would not want to mess with a dog who has feet like this. We have no doubt that this dog will be the Queen of the dog park whenever she goes.
Nailed It
This Twitter user was inspired by rainbow swirl nail art. Understandably, she decided to try it out. The results were...not on par, to say the least. We're not sure how the nail polish got everywhere besides her toenails. Bad aiming aside, at least she got the colors right.
If you ever struggle to paint your nails, just look at this photo. If your nail polish got remotely close to the nail, you've succeeded. This beauty fail looks like the polish exploded. At least the Twitter user can wash it off!
How Hard Could It Be?
Mermaid hair--a mixture of hair dyes combining pink, blue, and purple--looks stunning. But it usually requires a professional hair stylist, as indicated by this attempt. This woman tried to pull of mermaid hair but ended up with random strips of blue-purple.
Even worse, she didn't follow the style. Her ideal style dyed the tips, while she poured dye on the top of her head. Who knows why? She probably saw the hair style on Pinterest and through, "How hard could it be?" As it turns out: very hard.
It's Harder Than It Looks
Flipping wet hair has become a strange trend on social media. If you have the right camera, you can capture hair spraying a wheel of water in the light, and it looks beautiful. This woman tried it, and, well...maybe she didn't have the right camera.
In theory, the pose seems easy. But it's not. You need modeling skills to keep a straight face while flipping your hair out of water. This is evidence that just flipping your hair in a river won't give you that model shot you want.
Eyebrows On Fleek
Filling in your eyebrows takes skill. Beauty companies sell dozens of eyebrow pencils, liners, and fillers. This Snapchat user didn't put any regular filler on her eyebrows. It looks more like tar than makeup. If she wanted bold eyebrows, she got them.
The poster captioned this photo, "Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow is amazing!!" Either she poured the entire bottle on her face, or this brand is not what it seems. Either way, yikes. That was definitely a waste of money.
Don't Let Someone Else Do Your Mascara
"When he does my mascara," this Twitter user wrote. Whoever "he" is, he clearly didn't know how to apply mascara. Perhaps he thought that bottle of mascara was meant to fill in a person's eyebrows. Honestly, we don't know what she expected.
On the bright side, she does have some mascara on her eyelashes. If she cleans up her eyebrows, she'll be set. Or perhaps she's aiming for dark, messy eyebrows, in which case, she should keep them as they are.
When Your Face Mask Is Made Of Duct Tape
Ouch! The pain on this woman's face is visceral. She put on a black face mask (possibly made with charcoal), and seems to have a hard time taking it off. If you're not familiar with face masks, know that they shouldn't hurt. Face masks are moisturized with oils, so they should slide off easily.
Either this woman left the mask on for too long, or the face is made with terrible ingredients. It could be both. At this point, it looks like she's pulling off duct tape.
Curls Don't Work On Everyone
Curls can look lovely. But if you overdo it, it can be too much. Unfortunately, that's what happened when this woman tried curling her hair. Not everyone can pull of ringlets, and they can frame your face poorly if they're overdone.
Natural, light curls require gentle and strategic curling. We can't blame someone for messing up on their first time. But that doesn't make it any less funny. Fortunately, a wash or two will calm down these doll-like curls.
The Result Wasn't As Sweet
There's a reason why advertisers and movies hire professional makeup artists. Creative looks, like these lips covered in candy, are hard to do successfully. This woman proves it. Not only did she use the wrong sprinkles (rectangular instead of round ones), but she also just failed overall.
To be fair, the lighting doesn't work in this woman's favor. But even with professional lighting, those candy lips don't look the same. It must be hard to pull off. We can't imagine putting candy on your lips without eating it.
The Process Isn't Pretty
If you can't tell what's happening, know that it's a nail hack gone horribly wrong. The Pinterest tip recommends mixing corn starch with clear nail polish. When you apply the mixture to your nails, it'll look more glossy.
But things didn't go well for this beauty hacker. They somehow ended up with a Play-Doh-like substance that wouldn't work on their nails. Maybe beauty hacks should stay away from chemical mixes. Or, at least, they should stay far away from corn starch.
That Blush Is A Little Too Dark
This beauty fail comes straight out of nightmares. The worst part is the dark blush. Where can you even buy blush that dark? The clown makeup store? It's impressively dark and looks more like an awkward sunburn.
If you take any lesson from this, remember that it's worth investing in high-quality makeup. Also, test out the different shades before reddening your face with blush. It might make a funny Instagram post, but it won't do anything else for you.
Keep Vegetables Off Your Face
This Instagram user dressed up as a Sand Witch for Halloween. In the process, she came up with a creative idea: using lettuce and ham as makeup. It's clever, in theory, but then you end up with lettuce and ham stuck to your face.
"Please do not be inspired by this," the user wrote, "because ham contour is not something that stays fresh for long." Gross. We value your sacrifice, and everyone should take note not to use ham as makeup.
Block Eyebrows
Rectangular eyebrows go in and out of style. If you can pull them off, they look nice. But if you make them too big, you'll look like an Animal Crossing character. This is what happened to this poor makeup artist.
This fail is more depressing than the others because the rest of her makeup is on point. Her highlight and lipstick are amazing, but the eyebrows overshadow everything. Maybe she should stick to her natural eyebrow shape. You can't go wrong that way.
Like A Ghost
If this woman wanted to look like a Korean water ghost, she pulled it off. The concealer is white enough to work as zombie makeup. Although it might be the lighting, the look is still terrifying. At least it's eye-catching.
If there's one thing we learn from this list, it's that more eyeliner doesn't make a look better. And using concealer or tans that are too dark or too light can ruin a photo. Take this fails list as a learning experience.
You're Supposed To Blend It
Contouring is hard. When you want to try it out, it makes sense to follow a guide. Unfortunately, this woman's guide led her astray. Or, more accurately, her makeup led her astray. Her concealer is way too light.
To be fair, contouring involves blending. However, with concealer that white, she won't look much better after blending all that makeup in. Perhaps the diagram is misleading. Highlighters shouldn't be that white, or else you'll end up with a fail this big.
Why You Need A Professional
Again, this is why people have professional nail artists. This pop art nail style seems pretty precise. It involves a black outline to perfectly frame the pink. No wonder the black got absolutely everywhere. Outlining your nail is hard.
However, nail polish washes off of skin easily. The outline might look better with a little scrubbing, but it still won't look like the example picture. Most of the time, when people try out Pinterest looks, they end up with a beauty fail.
Hair Is Hard To Style
A fancy bun looks easy to do, right? According to this person's experience, it's not. If you look at a Pinterest picture and try to replicate it, you'll end up with this messy bun. What is this trying to be? Even with the reference photo, it's hard to tell.
The positive side of hairstyling is that you can easily undo it. With hair dye and cuts, you have to live with that mistake for a long time.
Eyelashes Can't Stay On
Look closely at this Lauren Murray makeup. Do you notice something off? No, it's not the light spot. The model's false eyelashes are falling off. Good thing her eyes were closed. Regardless, someone should have noticed that before they snapped the photo.
If you need proof that professional models use false eyelashes, here you go. Normally, they're glued on skillfully. But this makeup artist likely received an earful after not attaching the eyelashes correctly. It gives us some laughs, though.
Eyeliner Shouldn't Do That
"Tried some new eyeliner today," wrote the original poster. "Does this look natural?" No, it doesn't. Eyeliner shouldn't smear all over your eyes like that. Is she sure that she didn't accidentally apply mascara? Or was the brand really that bad?
Perhaps her hand slipped and miraculously missed her eye. But it still looks like she got punched in the face. Here, we have another example of why it's worth it to buy high-quality makeup products.
She Should Get A Refund
This poor woman wanted a full head of red-purplish hair. And what did she receive? Half a head of almost red hair. This hair fail is entirely on the stylist. "I spent $627 on this," she sadly admitted. Ouch.
It's no wonder that people in the comments were advising her on how to get a refund. People keep advising others about trusting a stylist, but in this case, even the professional didn't know what they were doing. It's sadder than anything.
Was This Intentional?
We would give you an explanation if we had one. This person's hair transitions from striped and blonde to fully blonde and curled at the end. If it were an ombre, the colors would gradually go from brown to blonde. But instead, it's an abrupt change.
One commenter suggested that it might be someone's roots growing out. If that's the case, they should have gotten their hair re-dyed far sooner. They have no one to blame besides themselves.
