The Inspiring Life Of Helen Keller

Her Father Was A Captain In The Confederate Army

Keller was born in deep in the south in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Years before Keller was born, her father, Arthur Keller, worked as a lawyer in Alabama before finally enlisting in the Confederate Army. During his service in the Civil War, he started as a private and worked his way up to be a quartermaster-sergeant, paymaster, and eventually a captain.
