Daya Shows NYC Who’s Boss at Irving Plaza For Headlining ‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’ Tour
There’s just something about an artist on the rise that excites the hardcore music fan. Maybe it’s possibility; the potential lying in whomever you discovered. Maybe it’s watching them go from a small following to a sold out crowd to winning a Grammy to having one of the hottest songs on Top 40. Unfortunately, those victories don’t always happen for every emerging act we adore but for 18 year-old pop songstress, Daya – real name Grace Tandon – life must be a bit surreal right about now.
Riding high off the Pittsburgh native’s Grammy win for Best Dance Recording for her collaboration with The Chainsmokers in “Don’t Let Me Down,” Daya played to a sold out crowd last night at New York’s Irving Plaza for her Sit Still, Look Pretty Tour and let’s just get the puns right out of the way by saying she didn’t let us down!
Playing songs off of her 2016 debut album, Sit Still, Look Pretty, the singer dazzled the crowd with her signature, infectious pop goodness. This being her first headlining tour, the girl took control of that stage like a veteran as she blazed through her hour set while battling a pretty nasty cold. If that’s not the definition of a #GIRLBOSS, then nothing is! We were even treated to a flawless cover of Nelly Furtado‘s “I’m Like a Bird” – so fitting with the singer’s voice and aesthetic!
As the sounds of “I.C.Y.M.I,” “Words,” “Cool” and first single, “Hide Away” took over, fans were itching to hear more so needless to say, once the opening chords of “Don’t Let Me Down” started up, the crowd went insane leading us right into the encore with girl power anthem, “Sit Still, Look Pretty.” I felt it when I first heard “Hide Away” in 2015 that this girl was going to be huge. It feels amazing to know that I was right and that every success past and present is well-deserved.
“This gal right here is gonna rule the world.” Get it, girl!
