5 Benefits That Lie Outside Of Your Comfort Zone

Once you start to venture out of your comfort zone, things start to get interesting. You’ll find that the things you once thought were scary, or things you thought you’d never be able to do, are the things you need to conquer the most. Once you experience the rush of conquering those fears, it kind of feels like a brand new you is on the verge of something amazing. You never know where your journey leads until you make that first step. If you’re still weighing the pros and cons of a situation, allow these five benefits to motivate you to take a chance!

1. Freedom

I’ll be the first to admit that, being an introvert, everything pretty much terrifies me. But once you make baby steps to where you want to be, it gets easier. Freedom to be who you are and chase what you want is only mastered once you let go and go for it!

2. Knowledge

Ever hear the saying, “There is no such thing as a stupid question?” Some of us refrain from speaking up in fear of looking stupid. I get it. That was me for a long time. But once I started doing something I love, I couldn’t sit back any longer. Ask questions. Get inspired. You’ll never gain the knowledge you need if you’re closing yourself off to it.

3. Experience

In any given career path, experience is key. As a music writer myself, I tend to worry that I’m not good enough compared to all the other more-skilled writers out there. There are a lot of areas of this business which make me uncomfortable. Like I previously mentioned, I’m an introvert and being quiet is my forte. I hate the sound of my voice and I cringe at the thought of speaking sometimes! I recently (and finally) had my first in-person interview with a favorite band of mine and it was probably the most exciting, nerve-wracking, beneficial experience of my career thus far. But I did it and I kinda rocked it! I’m not afraid of putting myself out there anymore and when the next interview rolls around, I’ll have that experience as a guide to show me that I can do the things that once scared me out of my freaking mind! Oh yeah, you can check it out here!

4. Courage

Most of the time, we’re all just going through the motions of life’s tough situations, feeling it out as we go along. Think about all you’ve been through and you’ll never doubt your ability to find your courage again. Like Taylor Swift says, “Fearless is not the absence of fear. To me, fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.”

5. Blessings

Stepping outside of your comfort zone brings many blessings to your life. You may not see them right away, but in time you will. If I’ve learned anything lately, it’s that everything is connected and the missing puzzle pieces always show up in time to complete the puzzle.
