6 Reasons To Get Pumped For The Summer Olympics

The 2016 Summer Olympics is right around the corner! In a few short days the world’s finest athletes will descend upon Rio to compete in feats of strength and skill and insanity. I’m not exactly a sports fanatic, but I catch Olympics fever like nobody’s business. It’s just magical! If you’re on the fence, here are six reasons to get pumped for the summer Olympics:

1 – The Opening Ceremony: The opening ceremony for the Olympics is always a shit show. And I mean that as a compliment. It’s a non-stop barrage of fireworks and dancing and fanfare, each host country trying to outdo the last. It’s always worth a watch!

2 – Women’s Gymnastics: Arguably the most entertaining Olympic sport, women’s gymnastics just rules. The tricks they perform will blow your mind. Plus, the US will be defending their gold medal from the 2012 games and Simone Biles is primed to sweep the podium.

3 – Michael Phelps: Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time. He’s kind of supernatural. Rio will be his fifth Olympics. Seriously!! You have to watch him. He’s the athlete you’ll tell your kids about.

4 – The Fluffy Training And Recap Montages: I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for the fluffy montages and inspirational Olympian stories NBC puts together. You see all the hard work these athletes put into training and you get all mushy and ask yourself why you skipped the gym again.

5 – The Inspiration Tunes: During any other time of year you might roll your eyes, but during Olympics time all those inspirational tunes just hit you at your core. Suddenly you’re watching someone win a gold medal with Katy Perry’s “Rise” playing in the background and your heart swells.

6 – The Torch Lighting: OK, maybe it’s a super retro cheese ball tradition, but don’t act like you don’t love watching that torch travel around the country and then get lit up to signify the games. Succumb to the magic, people!
