Justin Bieber Shares Details Of His Relationship With Selena Gomez
For all the drama that surrounded Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez when they were together, something was very evident: the pair were far too wrapped up in each other to carry on a functional relationship. They fought, broke up, got back together, and would repeat the cycle until we were all sick of it and kinda stopped paying attention.
The thing about their fighting and constant on/off status was no one knew what the hell was going on between them to cause all the upset. Well, now that the dust has settled and both stars have finally gone their separate ways, Justin sat down with Complex to talk about those days and what was really going on behind closed doors.
“I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her,” he said. “It was a marriage kind of thing. Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age. But we were so in love. Nothing else mattered. We were all about each other. But when it’s like that and you get your value from that, people will always disappoint you.”
Because of this seeming co-dependency on each other, Justin says he lost part of his identity, which lead to fights and drama, which carried over to the public.
“Your full identity can’t be in that person,” he said. “My identity was in her. Her identity was in me. When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin’ mind, and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other.”
Now Justin has a firm grasp on what love means to him and the lesson he learned from the relationship.
“Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling,” he said. “People have made it seem in movies that it’s this fairy tale. That’s not what love is. You’re not gonna want to love your girl sometimes but you’re gonna choose to love her. That’s something in life that I had to figure out.”
Sounds like Justin has grown up in more ways than one. Nice.
