New Music Monday Round Up: Beyonce And Carly Rae Jepsen

Monday doesn’t have to be faced with disdain and disappointment when there’s new music from Beyonce and Carly Rae Jepsen to wake you dafuq up.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything from Carly. The “Call Me Maybe” singer who shot to the top of the charts with her infectious earworm back in 2012, released her second studio album, KISS, toured with her 12 cotton candy spun tracks and sort of fell off the map and out of people’s minds. Carly could easy be shelved with all the other one-hit-wonders oft he music industry, but the 29-year-old Canadian pop singer took the Saturday Night Live stage this past weekend to showcase her new single, “All That.” Departing from the sugary pop-product that no one is really interested in buying, Carly has finally brought a more interesting treat to the table. Thanks to the work of producer Dev Hynes, the fresh faced slow jam harkens back to a sound which defined easy listening radio stations of the ’90s.

Meanwhile, Beyonce proved yet again she’s damn near perfect by dropping a new song and accompanying video, “Die With You.” Shot while seated at a piano, bare faced with a backwards baseball cap, Beyonce sings the dreamy love song (presumably about Jay-Z…duh) making me think teh song should actually be titled #relationshipgoals. While the elements of the song don’t go into uncharted territory or emulate past musical stylings, Beyonce’s vocals are on point (per usual) and likely to be heard at weddings across the country this summer.
