Exclusive Interview With Lindsey Stirling

Lindsey Stirling is one of the most talented artists. She stole our hearts with her unique and charming style and amazing playing the violin combined with dance. On April Lindsey Stirling released her second album, “Shatter Me”. And I was so honored to interview her. Don’t wait and check out it 🙂

Hi Lindsey Stirling. You released the second studio album a few weeks ago. How would you describe “Shatter Me”?

Lindsey Stirling: The entire album for “Shatter Me” revolves around the idea of breaking free, living “outside the box,” loving yourself for who you are, and being your best self.

What are you working on at the moment?

Lindsey Stirling:Right now I’m just focused on tour, but I’m planning to do some pretty epic music videos here in the near future 😉 and I’m planning to tour again in 2015.

When and how did you know that you wanted to be a dancing violinist?

Lindsey Stirling:I first learned to “move” when playing when I joined a punk rock band (Stomp On Melvin) in high school. I didn’t move much but it was more than I’d ever done in any orchestra. Then my senior year of high school I entered the America’s Junior Miss Pageant and in an effort to impress the judges, I wrote my own solo and added some dance moves. If you look really close you can see my effort to do my first backbend haha; it’s barely perceptible:

Can you tell us your method to stay true to yourself in show business?

Lindsey Stirling: I have to constantly remind myself of who I am, where I came from, and why I started doing all of this. I wanted to share my music with the world because I have been able to reflect the light and the hope I have come to feel through it. And I want others to feel that too. It is hard sometimes…it’s definitely a challenge to make a show “fun” and “entertaining in a world where sexuality is glamorized. Being modest and clean isn’t really the most popular thing. I recently went to the concert of another artist, and I was thinking critically of myself and how boring my show must be to some because I can’t do a lot of the “exciting” things that are often done on stage by other artists. I won’t swear, I won’t wear revealing clothing, I won’t use “sex” to appeal to my audience. But I think that what I must do differently is what has actually set me apart from other artists. I may not be the world’s biggest icon, but I think that I attract fans who are looking for “light” in their lives. And if I can help even just one person or inspire them to better their lives, it’s worth it.

You experiment with different styles of music. What do you feel when you discover the diversity of the sounds? Did you find the most comfortable style for you?

Lindsey Stirling:Basically I took all the things I love: violin, popular music, dancing, videos; and I put them together. I wondered myself if it would even work at times haha; when working on “Crystallize” it was the first time trying dubstep, and I almost gave up the project altogether because I got so frustrated with it. Ironically, “Crystallize” ended up being the single that went viral and propelled my career.

I read that you struggled with eating disorders, and I trying to support young people fight with this illness and another problems on my blog. Do you have any tips for people struggling with this?

Lindsey Stirling:The number one most important thing is to be able to admit you need help, and seek it. You aren’t alone, and you aren’t expected to beat it on your own. There are people waiting, begging, hoping you will reach out to them. Let them help you so that you can overcome and then be in a position to help others who struggle too.

You performed two times in Poland and in October you will visit us again. What can we except from your the next concert? And what do you like the most in Poland?

Lindsey Stirling:My Polish fans are amazing; I was in Poland for my last birthday and a crowd of them met me outside after a publicity engagement and sung happy birthday, brought me a cake and balloons. I have a pretty amazing concert coming your way, even if I do say so myself. 😉

What do you like doing in your free time?

Lindsey Stirling:I used to like to travel and make videos and create music…but now that I do that every day for my job all I want to do on my time off is visit with family and rest, aka do nothing hahaJ I love playing games with my family whenever I get a chance to visit home.

What is your biggest dream?

Lindsey Stirling:I would love to win a Grammy, and if I could get a gold album in the USA that would be unreal.

Thank you so much for this interview. Do you have a message for your fans and readers?

Lindsey Stirling: Thank you so much for all that you do for me; your support is definitely felt and appreciated. I couldn’t be doing any of this without you; can’t wait to come see you all in Poland soon!
