5 Romantic Comedies To Swoon Over This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Yay! Not really, but whatevs. If you’re like me, you’re praying for the best but expecting the worst – meaning the person I love will probably post pictures of him and his overly perfect girlfriend on Instagram and then I will weep all night. Such is life. If you’re looking for a giant tissue-fest this V-Day, look no further. These movies will have you weeping, for sure, while still giving you hope for love. Also, sometimes we just need to escape our troubles and immerse ourselves into someone else’s fictional life for an hour or two.

The ‘Before’ trilogy: Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight

This lovely trilogy of movies caught my attention last year. After watching 1995’s Before Sunrise, I became hooked and had to know what happened next. The story starts off with Jesse (played by Ethan Hawke) and Celine (played by Julie Delpy) meeting on a train to Vienna in summer ’94. They strike up a conversation and Jesse asks Celine to get off the train and explore Vienna with him for the night. They wind up having a magical evening together and promise to meet in a few months at the same train station.

Before Sunrise picks up ten years later in 2004. Jesse is on a book tour in Paris for his first novel, written about his night with Celine. He looks up from the crowd and sees Celine. Did they meet up like they promised? You’ll have to check it out to find out!

Before Midnight, which takes place in the present, tells the story of the trials of keeping a relationship together with the lovely backdrop of Greece to add to the atmosphere. Again, I don’t want to give too much away so I suggest you see for yourself!

Serendipity

2001’s Serendipity is one of my all-time favorite romantic comedies. Starring the lovely Kate Beckinsale and the always adorable John Cusack, Sara and Jonathan spend one serendipitous evening together in New York City. (Are you sensing a pattern here?) After years of not finding each other, they both can’t get each other off of their minds so they set out on a quest to find one another. Do they finally find each other? It’s the movies – what do you think? Watch it anyway! This movie kills me and it gives me so much hope.

Letters To Juliet

2010’s Letters To Juliet is to die for! I love anything Amanda Seyfried stars in, and this one won over my heart! While visiting Verona, Italy with her fiance, Sophie discovers her own little adventure while sightseeing. She finds a lost letter to Juilet from a heartbroken Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) that was written in 1957. Sophie decides to answer the letter and sets out on a quest to find Claire’s lost love, Lorenzo, with Claire herself and her grandson, Charlie. It’s a very heartwarming story that proves you are never too old to find true love.

What movies will you be watching this Valentine’s Day?
