From The Indie Vault: Amelia Scalies

Amelia Scalies – For fans of: Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Green Day

My first thought upon listening to 14 year-old Philadelphia, PA indie singer/songwriter Amelia Scalies was a flat out “yes!” I get this girl. I was this girl. If I was musically inclined at 14, this is exactly what I would have been doing.

Amelia Scalies (pronounced skah-lease) makes me nostalgic for the days of Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi” and gratified that there are still young musicians out there who have something substantial to say other than your typical sexed up Top 40 hit.

Scalies’ debut album, I Should’ve Known, offers up 11 original tracks and a cover of My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Standout tracks are “More Than Words,” “Memory,” and “Don’t Let Them Win,” which touches on the topic of bullying. If Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong had a daughter, this is what her music would sound like.

Enough of me rambling! It’s time to listen for yourselves. Stream I Should’ve Known below.
