Kicking off awards season, the Golden Globes 2014 had plenty to offer to both Academy Awards prediction aficionados and to fashionistas looking for the hottest new trends. Discover the best and the worst dressed celebrities at the Golden Globe Awards 2014.

Not even winners were spared the sharp critique of the fashion police at the Golden Globes, but the fashion mistakes were fewer than ever. The lack of inspiration was however truly horrific in the case of a few celebrities, or most likely, in the case of their professional stylists.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Amy Adams

It takes real courage to try to upstage the actual red carpet at any awards ceremony, but Amy Adams pulled it off at the Golden Globes with gusto. In a stunning red Valentino gown, the “American Hustle” actress made a big impression, also thanks to her great makeup and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Lupita Nyong’o

The “12 Years A Slave” star also pulled off a red look, with an even more daring twist: a cape! The strapless Ralph Lauren gown featured a cape that was the perfect touch of whimsy, which turned her look from a potential disaster to a red carpet victory.

Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Jennifer Lawrence

Dior and Jennifer Lawrence have won a lot of red carpet praise together, but tonight was not one of the actress’ best dressed moments. The over-accessorized gown seemed like a couture version of the little mermaid’s shipwreck dress. Jennifer was one of the winners, so her fashion faux pas will haunt her for years to come.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Michelle Dockery

Going for a trendy Oscar de la Renta dress was the right choice for the British actress. Michelle Dockery rocked a high-low hemline, accessorized with Christian Louboutin heels and Bulgari jewelry. The feminine silhouette suited her perfectly.

Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Sandra Bullock

Usually on the best dressed list, Sandra Bullock wasn’t so lucky this year. Her Prabal Gurung wasn’t exactly flattering on the bottom, but the worst thing about it is the combination of its three colors, making it look like a red carpet Frankenstein’s monster.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Naomi Watts

Tom Ford scored a spot on both lists tonight. While Hayden Panetierre’s dress made the worst dressed, Naomi Watts showed up on the red carpet in a gorgeously embroidered halter gown. Accessorized with strappy Jimmy Choo shoes and featuring Bulgari jewelry, her look was a definite win.

Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Paula Patton

Robin Thicke’s wife didn’t make a good impression on the red carpet. While her choices for jewelry, hair, and makeup were elegant, her dress landed her at the bottom of the worst dressed list. The white giant ruffle is the fashion equivalent of an overgrown tumor and hid the flattering and simple silhouette beneath.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Amy Poehler

Co-presenter and winner, Amy Poehler shined on stage in her many ensembles, but her best look for the night was the black Stella McCartney dress she wore on the red carpet. Both flattering and edgy, her dress featured a very small cut-out, that might quickly become a trend.

Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Drew Barrymore

While Olivia Wilde and Kerry Washington got praise for their baby bump revealing dresses, Drew Barrymore wasn’t as lucky. In a loud floral Monique Lhuillier gown, Drew only got kudos for her wonderful glow, but not for the gown that added so much unnecessary volume to her figure.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014 – Cate Blanchett

Black was the color of choice for after party fashion this year, but Cate Blanchett rocked it on the red carpet. Mixing lace and tulle, her black Armani Privé dress radiated sophistication and style. Her flawless look was completed with Chopard diamond jewelry.
