My Top 15 Favorite Movies For Halloween

Being a film student, it’s a given that I love movies. Here is a list of my favorite movies to watch during the Halloween season. Some are funny, some are cute and some I watch behind the safety of a pillow, but all are fun to watch and totally worth the nightmares!

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

A 90’s kid classic. This is a mandatory watch every year and those witches still creep me out to this day! It was a strong part of my childhood and I refuse to let it go!

2. 28 Days Later (2002)

My brother made me watch this one day and I hated him for it, but after I finished it, I realized it was actually a fun thrilling movie. I have a love/hate relationship with movies where people are running all around town fighting creatures to survive because in my mind that will totally happen to me one day.

3. The Saws

When I was in high school, my best friend and I decided to see what all the fuss was about and watch the first three saw movies in a row. Worst. Idea. Ever. I was shaking by the end of each one. Scariest movies I have seen to date. Watch with at least two other people!

4. Shaun of The Dead (2004)

One of the only zombie movies I actually enjoy. It’s such a funny movie, which makes the zombie factor easy to handle.

5. Scream (1996)

Believe it or not, I only just saw Scream a year ago because I was always too scared. My friends made me sit and watch it and guess what… IT WAS SCARY. I screamed like a little baby meeting a clown for the first time. It is, however, still a good movie to watch with friends, so that’s why it is on my list.

6. The Others (2001)

This is one of those movies that scared me as a kid, until I watched it when I was older and fell in love. So creepy and such a great twist at the end!

7. Mean Girls (2004)

Come on, when is it ever not an acceptable time to watch Mean Girls? “I’m a mouse, duh!”

8. V/H/S 1 & 2

Several short horror movies combined into one large one. Simply genius. You don’t realize how scared and messed up you are, until you are done watching and you realize you just saw 5 horror movies at once. Good luck sleeping!

9. The Paranormal Activities

These are fun to watch with your firends if you are all watching them for the first time. It’s all about the anticipation and build up. I have seen Paranormal Activity 3 two or three times and that one freaked me out each time. I have yet to see the 4th.

10. The Evil Dead (2013)

This is a remake of the original. It was well done. Soooo much blood and hearing all the sounds of knives cutting into bone is just perfect! Gather a bunch of friends and watch it!

11. Monster House (2006)

Super Cute. Super Funny. I love the story of this and it was cute while stilling having an element of scary.

12. The Cabin in The Woods (2012)

This movie was a satire on typical horror films and it did it’s job well. I don’t necessarily agree with the ending, but hey, it’s still super fun to watch.

13. Zombieland (2009)

One of my overall favorite movies. So entirely funny! This is another movie where the funny overpowers the zombies. I would be okay with living in Zombieland, so long as I have Bill Murray…oh wait.

14. Silent Hill (2006)

This is another movie that my brother made me watch. It certainly messes with your head, but in the best way.

15. The Nighmare Before Christmas (1993)

How can this not be on the list??? Nothing beats a Halloween AND Christmas movie! You will certainly see me blog about this movie again. It’s a Tim Burton classic!

Well that’s that. Grab some friends and some popcorn and pick one!

What is your favorite movie to watch on Halloween?
