Katelyn’s Favorites of June 2013

This is a new series I’m starting where at the end of every month, I will answer questions that will inform you of my favorite interests and events from that month. This will inform you of what’s been going on in my life and you’ll get to know me better! Here it goes!

What was your activity in June?

June was a great month for me, but my favorite activity, by far, was definitley going to the Fall Out Boy concert in Houston with my brother. My brother introduced me to Fall Out Boy about six years ago and ever since then, I’ve been hooked on them! Fall Out Boy was one of the first bands that really got me interested in real music and I had been wanting to see them in concert for years! When they went on a three year hiatus, I was scared I was never going to be able to see them in concert. When they came out with Save Rock and Roll this year, I knew I had to get tickets to the tour!

I always watch the opening acts and their opener that night was American Fangs. The band was pretty good and I really liked their energy on stage. After the concert, I had the chance to meet the lead singer, Gabriel Cavazos.

When Fall Out Boy came on, I and my brother were beyond excited! We knew every word to every song and it was just so surreal to see them in person. I can definitely say that it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I also got this amazing red tank top at the merch table that had a skull wearing an Indian head dress!

What is your favorite book you’ve read in June?

I’ve read a few books this month, but my favorite by far was Carrie by Stephen King. After I saw the new trailer for the movie they are making this year, based off the book that stars my favorite actress, Chloe Moretz, as the lead, the story imediately intrigued me. I then watched the movie they made in 1976 and it was very cheesy, but I still enjoyed it.

The story is about a young girl in highschool named Carrie, who had never quiet fit in, and was always made fun of. One thing the kids around her didn’t know was that Carrie has telekenetic powers. Carrie had always had an odd life, with her psycho religeous mother was very overprotective of her daughter. Just when everything seemed like it was going perfect for Carrie, her high school peers play a prank on her that they would regret forever, sending Carrrie over the edge.

I could not put this book down! It immediately pulls you in in the way Stephen King tells the story. I loved how the story was very detailed, so that you really got an idea of what Carrie was going through. I also think the story can really be related to todays society by how kids can be pushed to their limit by being bullied. To anyone who hasn’t read it, I definitetly recommend it!

What is your favorite movie you watched during June!

One of my favorite things to do is go the movies. I also just like to snuggle up in bed and watch a good movie. I have three movies I saw in theaters this month that I really enjoyed.

First, I really thought that Monsters University was a great prequal for Monsters Inc. The movie didn’t have a dull moment and Mike was so adorable when he was younger! It was also much different then I thought it woud be and there were two or three times when I thought the movie was about to be over, but then came another interesting suprise!

Another movie I really loved was Man of Steel. I thought that they did a great job in the movie and really showed where Superman came from. I loved how they showed the flashbacks of Superman’s childhood and how it was hard for him to keep his powers a secret. There were also some very touching moments in the movie. I loved how they really showed that Super Man was a down to earth boy that had so much care and compassion for others. Amy Adams played a great Louis Lane because they made her out to be very independent and brave and no at all vulnerable.

My last favorite of June was The Internship. This movie was a great comedy that had me laughing the whole movie. It was also such a great example of how you’re never too old to turn your life around and follow your dreams. I also loved how, at the beginning, they showed their team was very unenthusiastic, but the closer and closer they got, the more they became a team. To top it off, Owen Wilson is such a hottie!

What are your favorite beauty/healthcare products you have used in June?

One health care product I absolutely loved using was Tom’s Wild Lavender Roll-on Deodorent. This is the best deodorent I’ve ever used, because Tom’s is very earth friendly. Tom’s doesn’t test on animals, they use recycled materials, and 10% of profits go to human and enviromental causes. They also use no artifical colors, flavors, fragrances, or preservatives. It also has 24 hour odor protection. Tom’s doesn’t have aluminum in it’s deodorent which has been traced back to causing alzheimers.

One product I love using in the summer is Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen. This lotion- sunscreen really pampers your skin. I love how it is a two-in-one sunscreen by not only protecting your skin from the sun, but also by making your skin very soft. To top it all off, it has such a good, summery, fragrance!

What is your favorite music that you have been listening to during June?

I listen to music practically all the time. I listen to a wide variety of music, so I will mention a few artists I discovered this month and really enjoyed.

This month I bought the album Shrines by Purity Ring. Purity Ring is very different from any music I have listend to in a while. There could be described as electronic. I really love their music because of the voice of the lead singer, Megan James.

Someone who I have recently been listening to on repeat is Lorde. I discovered her through @synonymouswith blog. Read about Lorde here. I have been listening to her debute EP, which recently was released in the US, called The Love Club and I am absolutley obsessed with her!

Here is a playlist of the artists I just mentioned and some other artists I’ve been listening to this month.

What was your favorite outfit you wore in June?

I liked a lot of the outfits I wore in June since it was the beggining of summer, but my favorite was this. I would of worn black shorts with this since it was a 105 degrees outside, but I didn’t have any at the time.

Cut-off tank top: Gypsy Warrior

Oversized John Lennon Sunglasses: Gypsy Warrior

Combat boots: dEALIAs

Black skinney jeans: Jessica Simpson Colection

Beanie: Unknown

What is your favorite tv show you watched in June?

There are many tv shows I really enjoyed, but one that I absolutely love watching is Daria. I have always loved watching cartoons and Daria is so much different than your average cartoon. I love how sinical and honest Daria and Jane are. Also, I feel like even though it is only a cartoon, it is realistic to what high school is like. Daria is constantly making me laugh and it is so much fun to watch.

Thats my favorite things of June 2013!

XoXo,

Katelyn
