Why I’m Back Into Paramore

I’ve been doubting Paramore. When I first heard ‘Still Into You‘, I stopped looking forward to their fourth album. I wanted it to blow me away and bowl me over but I felt bored. It was a Taylor Swift b-side at best, and it lacked the raw rock edge I craved. In retrospect, I was probably just having a bad day.

I rapidly lost interest in the album campaign before it had even begun. Its lead single ‘Now‘ didn’t leave a lasting impression on me, either. I was disinterested although enjoyed it when the video premiered, but couldn’t tell if I’d simply been tricked by the visuals. I promised myself that I’d listen to the album online out of loyalty, but my expectations were unfairly low.

Today, however, I listened to some of Paramore‘s self-titled album – and loved it. Suddenly I became excited all over again. The funkiness of ‘Ain’t It Fun‘ had me dancing (to my limited rhythmical abilities) almost instantly and tracks such as ‘Grow Up‘, ‘Fast In My Car‘ and ‘Daydreaming‘ left me yearning for more. If what I heard today had been revealed earlier, I’d have joined the diehards in counting down the days.

I lost out on the fun of the build-up, but I’m not going to miss out on the joy of the music now. Tomorrow, I’ll right my wrongs and buy the album – I’m even willing to give ‘Still Into You‘ another chance.
