Valentine’s, Shmalentine’s: 4 Tips & a Playlist to Make This Valentine’s Your Best Yet

Ahh, Valentine’s Day. The day where you pretty much hear it all: “it’s a manufactured waste of time and money,” “it makes single people feel like losers,” “Single Awareness Day,” “I’m just going to mope around the house with a whole carton of ice cream.”

All of this seriously needs to stop! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely had horrible V-Days; from when I had my heart completely torn to shreds to…well, now when my heart is in pain..but still! I refuse to mope. Instead, I’m going to appreciate the pretty pink and red heart decorations and do some retail therapy…and maybe some chocolate. 😉

I am hereby declaring February 14th “Appreciate Yourself Day!”

I believe that you should celebrate your love everyday, not just on holidays. Ever notice how only around Christmas and Valentine’s Day there’s all these jewelery commercials on TV? Guys, keep your diamonds. I’d rather have your loyalty. If you’re with someone who only shows “affection” on V-Day then I suggest getting out of that relationship…but that’s a whole other story!

Just remember, Valentine’s Day is just another day. If you’re feeling left out, I feel your pain but try to do things that make YOU happy. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Retail Therapy

– Like I mentioned above, tomorrow I will be shopping my little heart off! Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait to break out of the bulky coats and scarves and slip into some flats and leather jackets! Or at least be able to wear just a sweater without a coat! -_-

2. Pamper Yourself

– This is my new favorite scent from The Body Shop. The body lotion smells lovely after a shower.

3. Grab Some Cozy Socks

– Grab your cozy socks and watch your favorite movie or TV show on DVD. Read. Write in a journal. If you’re alone like me, you can probably OD on the chocolate. Shh. Nobody has to know. 😉

4. Listen To Music

– Make a playlist, like the one below, and jam out to your favorite songs while doing all of the suggestions above! Make a mix of love/hate songs. It’s okay to cry. It’s also okay to get angsty. 😛

Try not to be bitter this Valentine’s Day. I know it’s tough, especially if you can’t be with the one you love or if you haven’t found that person yet. Just relax. Be patient. Breathe. Timing is everything.
