Why Did Jennifer Lawrence Diss Meryl Streep In Her Speech?

While we love Jennifer Lawrence‘s unfiltered comments in interviews, we felt a little uncomfortable when our girl crush seemed to take a dig at fellow nominee Meryl Streep during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes on Jan. 13th. After all, the legendary actress was absent from the awards show due to being sick with the flu. When she went to accept her award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her role in the Silver Linings Playbook, the typically polite J-Lawr confused everyone by saying, “I beat Meryl [Streep].” Um, what’s up with that Jen?!

While it may have seemed that the Hunger Games starlet was rubbing her win in Meryl’s face, she was just quoting a line from the 1996 comedy, The First Wives Club, which stars the hilarious Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.
