‘The Carrie Diaries’ Recap: Read Before Use

Last week’s Carrie Diaries episode left us with a number of questions surrounding the young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) and her double life: Will she be able to hang onto her internship with such a strict boss? Will Carrie and Sebastian ever get together? And what’s the big secret about Sebastian’s past? For avid fans, two of these questions were answered in “Read Before Use.”

*Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not read further if you don’t want to know what happened in the third episode.

This week’s episode we find out why Carrie’s dad (Matt Flescher) doesn’t want her dating hunky Sebastian (Austin Butler). After snooping around in her father’s confidential cabinet, Carrie finds Sebastian was kicked out of his previous school for sleeping with his Art History teacher. Scandal! Nonetheless, Carrie defies her dad and goes on a date with her potential beau.

Carrie’s little sister Dorritt (Stefania Owen) is going through a rebellious phase and steals a hamster from the local pet store, hiding it from the family. She’s successful, until big sis accidentally finds it while looking for a pair of shoes. Busted!

Carrie’s BFFs, Maggie (Katie Findlay) and Mouse (Ellen Wong) are going through their own love battles. Maggie is dealing with her breakup with Walt with tons of dramatics, even demolishing a stuffed panda bear with a pair of scissors. Yikes! Mouse finally snags a date with her Harvard hookup, Seth! The two meet up in the city and tag along with Carrie to an art exhibit Larissa invited her to. The three are noticeably out of their element and becomes even more obvious when Mouse is asked to put a penny in a jar to see a model’s “downstairs lady part.”

Mouse declares she can’t bear to do it and runs away. Seth chases after her and the theatrics end with Seth calling Mouse his girlfriend, a label she has wanted from him. Meanwhile, Carrie proves brave by taking on the task and is surprised how normal and nonchalant it was. The model is impressed with her and challenges Carrie to “take the throne” and show hers. Carrie respectfully turns down the offer at first Larissa is disappointed, but Carrie makes her case and all is well again.

With her newfound confidence, Carrie stands up to her father and tells him she is going to date Sebastian. The two hang out again and Carrie comes clean about her findings. She tells Sebastian she’s okay with his past, but Sebastian, who is unaware of having a file or even a lawyer, becomes angered when he’s told the truth. Then Sebastian breaks up with Carrie….whaaaaat…

What will happen between Sebastian and Carrie – will they get back together or was that the end of the road? Stay tuned to Buzznet next week for the week’s recap!

The Carrie Diaries airs Mondays on The CW at 8PM.
