Skylar Grey vs. Holly Brook: Which Do You Prefer?

Back in 2006 I fell in love with an album, Like Blood Like Honey, by Holly Brook. Holly’s piano driven sound was intoxicating and the definition of true artistry. Holly was also featured as guest vocalist on “Where’d You Go” by Fort Minor, Linkin Park MC Mike Shinoda’s side project. She has even toured as part of Duncan Sheik’s band, and appears on his 2009 album Whisper House.

In 2010, she changed her name to Skylar Grey. She explained that “it represents the unknowns in life. People seem to be afraid of the unknowns, but I’m the complete opposite. I dive into the unknown because I feel like that’s where all your possibilities come from.”

She then co-wrote the Eminem/Rihanna hit “Love The Way You Lie” and sang vocals on Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home.”

All of that sounded amazing to me until I saw this:

I don’t understand how she can go from Like Blood Like Honey to “C’mon Let Me Ride.”

“C’mon let me ride your popsicle?” Ok then…

It’s just sad to me. I clearly don’t understand the reasons of the drastic change but I wish her the best with her career. I just miss the original Holly.

Which do you prefer?
