Flashback Friday: 5 Fun Skating Movies

There’s nothing more fun than watching skaters do their thing – except maybe actually skating! Whether or not you’re an avid fan or not, you can’t help but share in the adrenaline rush that skaters get when honing their craft. The new movie Waiting For Lightning hits theaters today and is the story of Danny Way, a young boy who came from a broken home and went on to attempt the impossible: jump the Great Wall of China on a skateboard!

In honor of the movie’s release, from skateboarding to in-line skating, here are 5 fun skating movies:

Lords of Dogtown

Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsch and Nikki Reed star in this movie about the real-life “Z-Boys,” a group of skateboarders who revolutionized skating. Fun fact: Twilight movie director Catherine Hardwicke directed this movie!

Grind

The O.C. hunk Adam Brody starred in this 2003 flick about amateur skaters trying to make it in the pro-skating world.

Brink!

The 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Erik Von Detten was about two in-line skating groups, the Soul Skaters and Team X-Bladz.

Thrashin’

It’s Romeo and Juliet meets skateboaring… in 1986!

Airborne

This 1993 rollerblading-themed flick is about a surfer who loves to rollerblade and has to move to Ohio. It also stars a young Seth Green!
