BUZZNET Artist Spotlight: PK

Time for another new band to discuss in our Artist Spotlight!

Today we are taking a look at California’s own PK. Not only are these five guys (Travis Hawley , Nick Fotinakes, Matt DePauw , Mikel Vk and Rico Rodriguez) easy on the eyes (ladies) — their songs are catchy, heartfelt and will make you dance! Their rock/indie/pop sound is a mix of The Killers, a dash of Jimmy Eat World’s sentiment and (if you can believe this) a hint of The Cure. I know, that is a crazy mixture, but just take a look at the music video for their up-tempo song “Some Nights” below. Be sure to tell me what you think! #musicrules.

Also, check out a quick Q&A with the band about why they love music, what they have coming up next and what they shared about their new EP, Archives & Rarities coming this December.

What made you first decide that your passion for music was not only a hobby, but something you wanted to commit to everyday to make a living?

We’re not really the type of people that go halfway on anything. When we get involved, we commit and so it worked the same way when it came to playing music. Now the reality of us actually being able to pull it off was a different story. I specifically remember playing our first sold out show and seeing a few hundred people singing my lyrics back to me and thinking. “Oh wow, maybe there is a chance.”

You recently released an EP titled “The Lost Boy Sessions”, what were your influences during the writing process?

I was listening to a lot of The Mystery Jets, Billy Idol, and The Pogues.

In early December you’re releasing an EP called “Archives & Rarities” can you tell us about it?

We had some remixes, some acoustic sessions and a live show recorded on the back burner and we thought it would be cool to give our audience a chance to see PK from different angles. So we combined them all and are putting them out as a small online release.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a musician/ What’s the most frustrating part?

The most rewarding part of being a musician is being able to travel and be creative 100% of the time. The most frustrating thing about being in a band is hurrying up to wait. Everything comes in waves and you’ll rush to meet deadlines only to wait a few months to actually get it out.

What do you have coming up next for your fans?

We have a new music video, new music to release, some tour plans and PK’s Archives and Rarieties. 2013 is going to be huge.
