Artist Of The Month: Owl City

Hello and welcome to the next installment of Artist Of The Month! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it is already September! This shall be a wonderful month! After all, September is my birthday month, and I also tend to associate September with new beginnings. For me, it’ll be a new age and a time to learn and grow, and I know a lot, if not most, of you are gearing up for a brand new school year. I have the perfect artist this month that’ll wipe away your back-to-school blues and remind you that the world is full of magic…if you know where to look for it! Hint: he’s a real hoot! 😀

I first discovered Owl City through word of mouth on Twitter. A lot of the celebs that I used to follow at the time were all raving about “Fireflies” so I decided to see what all the hoopla was about. Funny thing? I hated it! I thought it was the dumbest song I’ve ever heard. Eventually after a few months I caved and listened to Ocean Eyes and wound up loving it…and “Fireflies?” Well let’s just say I can’t get enough of it now! Opinions change and luckily mine did because Owl City got me through a treacherous 2010.

I’m sure most of you know about Owl City so its not like I need to introduce you to Adam Young or anything. He’s talented, driven, has the type of morals that I’d want in a future husband and oh yeah, he’s classy. Let me put in my order now and I’ll take him to go. 😀

Adam just released his third major label album, The Midsummer Station, last month. The album features “Call Me Maybe” songstress Carly Rae Jepsen, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, and an array of synth-driven happy pop that’ll make you aware of shooting stars and bustling metropolises. My descriptions are lame; just listen to the album. On September 5th, Owl City will be embarking on The Midsummer Station World Tour. Go here for all tour dates! I’ll be at the New York show (a little birthday present to myself) so if you’re coming let me know!

Are you a “Hoot Owl?”
