Best Show Ever! Charli XCX At The Troubadour In Los Angeles

This past Friday night I was given the opportunity to have my socks knocked off by one of music’s newest It Girls: Charli XCX. The British beauty is on the verge of taking the world by storm with her enchanting goth pop jams; a unique blend of 90s girl group nostalgia and dark, romantic synth that makes for an irresistible, catchy mix. The 20-year old stunner performed a headlining show at The Troubadour on August 17 (just before opening a sold out show for mega band fun. at The Wiltern) and she did not disappoint.

After opening bands, 90s melodic dream pop group Kitten and and awesomely esoteric New Oriental outfit Io Echo, warmed up the crowd, Charli took the stage in a very Sporty-Spice-Meets-Scary-Spice look: a neon yellow Nike sports bra paired with leopard leggins and monster platform sneakers. Basically she looked awesome but MORE IMPORTANTLY she sounded awesome: her infectious, haunting voice booming over the dance-y electro beats (played live by her band no less). Charli is a firecracker of energy, kicking, punching, and jumping around while winding her body around the stage to the strains of her hook-laden melodic jams. She was even joined by her V Magazine cover compatriot Sky Ferreira (Grimes was also on this particular cover) for a beautiful rendition of Charli’s track “Grins” while a crowd full of adoring fans sang along.

You can buy Charl XCX’s EP You’re The One on iTunes and also download her wonderful mixtape (complete with samples from Cruel Intentions) “Heartbreaks And Earthquakes” free on SoundCloud.
