John Mayer Upset About Taylor Swift Song: ‘I Didn’t Deserve It’

While John Mayer has seemed to show off a more mature side as of late, his past seems to haunt him – particularly on the topic of his love life. From his outspoken, often TMI openness on relationships with the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston, one relationship took the cake on the most shocking: his fling with the young Taylor Swift. The doe-eyed songstress was just 19 years old when the 30-something musician apparently broke her heart – and Taylor subsequently went on to write about the ordeal in her song “Dear John,” letting the cat of the bag on their relations. In the latest issue of Rolling Stone John sets the record straight, telling his side of the story about the song.

John tells the mag: “It made me feel terrible. Because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”

“I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”

When asked about the song’s line, “Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?” John simply said, “I don’t want to go into that.”

Do you think John Mayer has the right to say that he didn’t deserve it? If you could write a song about an ex, what would you title it?
