Backstage Buzz at American Idol: Which Finalist Was Suffering Stage Fright?

Tuesday was the final night of competition for Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, the last two contestants standing after three months of singing in the Idol spotlight. With high hopes of being showered in confetti and named this years American Idol, the pair went head-to-head in a three round sing-off to win votes and prove they are the best singer in America.

With six songs sung under an hour, the pace of the show was quick and to the point. With guest performances by Jason Derulo and season 10’s Scotty McCreery, there wasn’t time for much else.

While the judges seemed to think Phillip had a slight edge over Jessica, both contestants are just thankfull and happy to have made it this far.

When we caught up with them backstage they seemed relaxed and were more concerned with making sure they were taking everything in.

“I feel like we’re just trying to have fun right now,” Jessica said. “It’s the finale, top two—win or lose, we both won. Of course we all wanted to win, but no one makes it this far, for a 16-year-old and someone like Phillip. He’s goofy and funny and an amazing artist and person overall!”

Phillip added that although the final performances seemed scary at first, he had a great time playing in such a large venue.

“I was scared to death,” Phillip spilled. “But I went out there and finally loosened up throughout “Stand By Me” and the rest of the show. It was so, so fun. We’re just excited to see what happens,” Phillip told us. “Whatever happens happens. We’re two completely different artists and we just wish each other the best throughout our careers.”
