Jay-Z Covers War: The Summer Set Versus Katy Perry

As Jay-Z continues to influence mainstream music (leave your illuminati theories at the door please), the rap giant’s material of past and present is being covered from artists from the worlds of pop and pop-punk. Arizona’s The Summer Set went old school with their cover of “99 Problems” released today and Californian Gurl Katy Perry tackled Kanye West collab “N***as In Paris” during a live performance earlier in the year too.

The Summer Set

Before their show at Manchester Academy, England (21st April) supporting We Are The In Crowd, The Summer Set experimented with Jay-Z’s back catalogue to create this interesting cover. It was only uploaded to the internet a few hours ago but will it soon be chasing Katy Perry’s 1 million+ hits?

Katy Perry

Her previous “Covers War” appearance saw her get trounced by Panic! At The Disco when the pair battled Adele’s ballads. However, perhaps her change in genre (and hair colour) will help her win this round. What are your thoughts on this brave cover?

Who is the covers war champion in your opinion?
