Coachella Day 3: The Sequel Can Be Better Than The Original

My magical music weekend is over, but I have some excellent memories to last me a lifetime. Day 3 was packed with dancing, dirt and sweat. It was another 100+ degree-day at the grounds but that didn’t stop hundreds of people from checking out Santigold on the main stage. She was non-stop energy and everyone was dancing. Everyone.

Afterwards, I moved along to see The Growlers, Real Estate, The Hives, Gotye, and Beruit. My favorite of the afternoon was definitely The Hives (photo above) who put on quite a show and wore tuxedos on stage. Those Swedes sure do know how to entertain, and even admitted we were a better crowd than weekend one. Actually, a few performers said that throughout the weekend. Sorry weekend one.

When the sun went down Justice took the main stage and again the entire valley turned into a rave with glow sticks, beach balls and more fist pumping that I had ever seen in my life. It was quite a sight.

The three big acts of the night were At The Drive-In, Florence + The Machine and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg. At The Drive-In (photo above) was the only set of the weekend I mustard up the courage to watch from the pit, it was insane but totally worth it! Jumping around in a pit of sweaty boys made me feel like I was at Warped Tour, only under a blanket of stars. I caught the last few songs of Florence (totally different crowd than At The Drive-In) and of course she looked like a goddess and sounded like an angel.

Last was Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg; my first rap show. Everyone was packed as far as the eye could see waiting for the set we had all heard so much about. Visually the set was impressive and hologram Tupac came out and gave everyone chills; but the real surprise was when Eminem and 50 Cent made an appearance. The crowd went wild (myself included) and Eminem did “I Need A Doctor” and “Forgot About Dre”. Lost my mind.

It was an extraordinary weekend and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to have a similar experience at some point. If anyone ever asks you, “Hey dude, want to go to Coachella this year?” always say yes. Always. #muisicrules.
