BUZZNET EXCLUSIVE: Get To Know David Strauchman

Hey my darlings,

Here is a little one-on-one with the one and only David Strauchman. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, maybe if I say these two words…Every Avenue. That might help 😉

BH:Describe yourself using 3 songs.

DS: California Gurls – Katy Perry, This Is How We Do It – Montell Jordan, My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion

BH: What is one memory from a show that stands out to you the most?

DS:I would have to say the first time we played in Japan. I was so jetlagged but blown away that I was about to play our songs for people in another country that I could barely communicate with.

BH:What are the last thoughts that run through your mind when you step on stage?

DS:Other than thinking “Don’t fuck up!” I feel like my mind goes blank and a switch is flipped. Then we all run around like idiots!

BH: What’s the best advice you have been given in the music world?

DS: If you don’t believe in your music then no one will.

BH: What are a few things that you can’t live without on the road?

DS: My phone, for sure; I’m on this thing ever second. Q-tips are a must have and finger nail clippers; can’t play the guitar with huge, long, nasty finger nails.

BH: Do you have any guilty pleasures or hidden talents?

DS: I watched Sex and the City for the first time ever today because it was the only DVD my friend had in her house. I got so into that I forgot I was cooking and almost burnt her house down. The smoke alarm was going off and her cats were running around going nuts! So, yeah, I guess you could say that’s one of them… As far as hidden talents go, I don’t really have any cool ones, but at one of my random jobs I used to weld my friend these huge ash trays out of scrap metal. They all would weigh, like, 50 pounds but they were sweet! But smoking is bad.

BH: What is something a fan has made for you that you still have?

DS: Man, I have so many things from fans and I could name them all. One of my favorite gifts is from a fan in Japan. She wrote me a letter but her English was a little off and she wrote that she wanted to eat my face and that we should come back soon. I thought it was hilarious! My other is a handmade bracelet that says Ecuador. This rad girl saved up a bunch of money to fly to NYC to see us and brought all this stuff but the bracelet was my favorite. I have it on right now!

BH: If you could tour with any 4 bands from the 80s and 90s who would you pick?

DS: Michael Jackson, The Foo Fighters, Weezer, Billy Joel

BH: What was your favorite class in High School?

DS: When I did pay attention in school I loved Science and Art. The teachers are what made me like my classes for the most part. A bad teacher can ruin a class for you.

BH: If someone made a movie about your life, what would the title be and who would play you?

DS:The title would probably be Get Your Shit Together. For whatever reason people say I look like Bradley Cooper even though I know I look like George Clooney. I guess I have to go with Brad.

BH: What would your rap name be?

DS: Dirty-D. It’s my dick’s name too…

BH: Tell us about the scariest experience you have had on tour!

DS: Well, our band has had a million, but I think the best that comes to mind was a fly date we had. We had all got up way too late and hungover and had to get to the airport, almost missed our flight–all that stuff. Matt drew a picture on the back of one of the safety pamphlets and that is illegal as shit. It may have involved a plane crashing, haha! When we landed the FBI showed up and took him; a cop told us to go on and that he was going to be spending the day with him. So, we really had no idea what was going to happen and we had to just cross our fingers that he would meet back up with us, haha. He ended up getting back safe, but it was nuts!

BH: What is the worst job you have ever had?

DS: My worst job was before we got signed. I was working five, sometimes six days a week from 6AM-5PM standing in a silo and shoveling sand. So for about 5 months I was stuck shoveling sand that was like thirty feet tall down into a little hole.

BH: Share a random fact about yourself that not many people would expect! DS: Cream corn freaks me out. For real.
