Backstage Buzz At American Idol: Colton Dixon Spills On His Gwen Stefani Crush!
One of the best parts of being a contestant on American Idol is having the chance to be mentored by legendary rock stars many young artists only dream of meeting. For the top eight who battled it out with their ’80s best Wednesday night, they had the opportunity to be mentored by rock goddess Gwen Stefani and her No Doubt bandmate, Tony Kanal.
While all the contestants had a killer time working with Gwen and Tony, rock-star-in-the-making Colton Dixon was beaming when Buzznet caught up with the Tennessee born 20-year-old to talk about his time working with Gwen.
“First of all I walk in the room and I was like, ‘OMG it’s Gwen Stefani, she’s gorgeous!” he laughed. “I couldn’t get that thought out of my head to begin with and then she started singing with me just out of the blue and Jimmy [Iovine] was like ‘Get her a mic’ and I was like, ‘Yes get her a mic, get her a mic!’ It was so awesome. A lot of people got to sing with Stevie Nicks. I wasn’t one of those people, I was so mad, but I got to sing with Gwen Stefani and it was so awesome. It made it sound so much better! I was on cloud nine.”
Working with Gwen and Tony may have helped Colton bring the audience to their feet, but he still faces another round of elimination and knows no one is safe from being sent home.
“Anyone can go home at this point,” he told us. “They’re all so stinkin’ good! After every performance I watch it’s like, ‘Well she’s not going home, he’s not going home. Dang! I hope I did good enough!’ The competition is crazy tense. You just gotta bring your A-game every time and have fun with it.”
We hope Colton stays, he definitely has what it takes to go all the way to the finale!
