One Direction Debuts On Top And Announces Summer Tour!

British boy band sensation One Direction has made their American debut in a big way. For the first time in history, a British group’s debut album entered the Billboard charts at the number one spot. That’s right, Up All Night hit the top of the charts. And no, not even the Beatles or Spice Girls did that!

One Direction pandemonium began just over a year ago when the band was pieced together on the British version of X Factor. Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis placed third in the competition and Simon Cowell immediately signed the group to his label. They released their album in Europe last November; It was the fastest selling European album of the year.

Thanks to catchy songs, cute guys and social media, the 1D craze spread to the United States. The band’s recent trips to the US have created Beatles level mania (we’re talking girls fainting at meet and greets and chasing them outside of concerts) with tens of thousands of fans coming to see their recent performance on the Today show.

1D is currently on tour with Nickelodeon boy band Big Time Rush, but have their own plans to really take over this summer. Not only do they have their own Nick show in the works, are performing the Kids Choice Awards and sold out the O2 Arena 7 times, but they just announced their own North American summer headlining tour.
