Nicki Minaj On “Being Fearless”

Nicki Minaj has become a focal point of popular music with her larger than life persona, catchy songs and theatrical performances – but Nicki insists it’s just who she has always been. Her 2012 Grammy performance of “Roman Holiday” was very melodramatic and left some fans scratching their heads.

“That’s just who I am,” Nicki told MTV. “I was a theater major; I studied theater. It’s funny because, even with the Grammys that wasn’t the first time I’ve done theater.”

Minaj describes her next effort as a “doozy” and said, “It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture.” The “Super Bass” singer/rapper also went on to explain that she realizes she has become part of popular culture by just being herself.

“I guess I am pop-culture just because what I’m doing seems to be popular. When people want to do what you’re doing, it’s kind of popular. I don’t ask girls to wear pink hair they just do it. It’s not about black or white; I think it’s just a statement. It doesn’t matter which color you are. It’s just a statement of being fearless.”
