How To Deal With Being The New Girl

It’s never easy being the new girl – remember Cady Heron in Mean Girls? After all, you don’t want to be the one eating lunch in a single bathroom stall! Worrying about what to wear, who to talk to, and who to eat lunch with are all common problems that come along with being the new one of the bunch. So what’s a girl to do when you’re put in the position of being the new one?

Here are some ways to deal with being the new girl:

Smile. The easiest and best conversation starter is a simple smile that lets people know it’s okay to talk to you.

Talk to people. Speaking of talking… do it! A simple “Hello, how’s your day going?” is a great way to initiate a conversation.

Wear a nice outfit. Like my mother says, “If you know you look good, you feel good.” Mom’s got a point! Nice and good are such subjective words – if you feel you look your best, it will definitely show!

Learn the rules. Whether it’s a new school or a new job, it’s always best to start off knowing the rules: official or unofficial. After all, you don’t want to be forever known as “the new girl who broke the rules”!

Join a club. Depending on what kind of club it is, you are guaranteed to meet at least a handful of new people – if not more – that have your same interests.

What do you think is the best way to cope with being the new person?
