Grammy Trail Off #3: Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday’

Colorful MC Nicki Minaj has stake in the 2012 Grammy’s Best Rap Album category–do you think Pink Friday is good enough to trump Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Lupe Fiasco? Regardless, let’s fall down the rabbit hole of facts, beginning with Nicki’s Pink pièce de résistance.

Pink Friday track “Blazin” samples “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” performed by Simple Minds–a huge 80’s hit because of its placement in cult classic The Breakfast Club.

In 2005 pop-punk band Yellowcard performed “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” in honor of The Breakfast Club receiving the Silver Bucket of Excellence at the MTV Movie Awards.

“How I Go,” a track off of Yellowcard’s Lights and Sounds, is based on the Tim Burton-directed film Big Fish.

Big Fish starred iconic actress Jessica Lange, who recently snagged a Golden Globe for her role on the FX show American Horror Story

American Horror Story creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk credit the Roman Polanski-directed horror flick Rosemary’s Baby as one of their inspirations.

One of Nicki Minaj’s many alter egos is Roman Zolanski, a play on the famous filmmakers name.
