Grammy Trail Off #2: Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade’

Bruno Mars is known as a modern day crooner who writes love songs that can make any girl weak in the knees. With his unique voice and romantic lyrics, the “Just The Way You Are” singer stole our hearts over the airways and made it virtually impossible for other guys to compete. Now with his Best Song nomination for the track “Grenade”, Bruno has made it clear he is here to stay.

Check out this fun trail of facts beginning with he Grammy Award nominated song, “Grenade”.

– Writer-producer Benny Blanco played an unreleased track for Bruno Mars that included lyrics similar to the theme of “Grenade” and became the inspiration for the song. Mars explained the process in an interview saying,

“I was with my friend Benny Blanco and he was playing me some songs, and he played me this song that had a lyric like [the one in “Grenade”]… he said, ‘This band is not signed, this is a CD that wasn’t released.’ I said to Benny, ‘I can relate to that so much, I want to take that and make it my own.’ He was in contact with the dude, and I started writing my version, basically. It’s a heartbreaking, heartbreak song and I think everyone can relate to that. You’re so in love with this woman and you don’t understand, ‘What am I doing wrong? What am I not giving to you? I’ll go as far as putting a bullet in my brain for you, and why can’t I get that kind of love in return?'”

– Benny Blanco has worked with some of the best in pop music, including Ke$ha on her number one debut single, “We R Who We R”. The song became the 17th song to debut at number one in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

– Ke$ha had another top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, “My First Kiss” which she recorded with the rowdy duo 3OH!3.

– 3OH!3’s were honored with the opportunity to co-headlined the 2011 Vans Warped Tour alongside A Day To Remember and Gym Class Heroes.

– Gym Class Heroes’ front man Travie McCoy put out a solo album in 2010, including the hit song, ‘Billionaire’ which was written and features Bruno Mars.

And there my friend is the trail.

Another fun fact for this category is that technically BEST SONG is given to the song writer(s) — so if this one comes out on top, the Grammy will be awarded to: Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence, Ari Leving, Brody Brown, Claude Kelly, and Andrew Wyatt. Just saying.

Do you think “Grenade” will take it home?
