Platform Shoes in Pop Culture History

If you were to go back and look at my old secret diaries circa 1997, you would find, alongside awkward tales of growing up, detailed descriptions of one particular kind of item in my wardrobe that I simply could not get enough of: PLATFORM SHOES. I was nine years old, and completely, madly, head-over-heels obsessed with platforms. I would describe each pair lovingly, constantly revise my list of how many pairs I owned, and dream of the day I could travel to London and buy higher, more outrageous platforms from the same places the Spice Girls did.

14 years later, my love has only gotten stronger. (Thank god for Jeffrey Campbell.) To celebrate this love, I present you with a gallery of platform shoes in pop culture history. I’m getting butterflies just thinking about it.
