HIDE YOUR CHILDREN! THERE’S A BARBIE WITH TATTOOS!

Let’s face it: at this point, tattoos are pretty darn normal.

What was once considered a form of rebellion reserved for sailors or bikers has become generally acceptable in society. People from all walks of life get tattoos.

Including Barbie.

That’s right, the limited collector’s edition Tokidoki Barbie sports some adorable ink on her neck, collarbone and upper arm.

All good, right?

Of course not.

Parents groups are apparently outraged over the new doll, claiming that this Barbie sets a bad example for young girls by…encouraging them to get tattoos.

Oh no! Tattoos! The horror! And while I say this with an extreme amount of sarcasm, at least one commenter on a website has said ‘Encouraging children that tattoos are cool is wrong, wrong, wrong. Mattel why not put a cigarette and a beer bottle in her hand while you’re at it!’

Look, I have my issues with Barbie (despite having a love for collector’s dolls like this, it’s a contradiction that I deal with better if I don’t think about it) but let’s face it: this isn’t a doll meant for kids. It’s meant for collector’s. It is a $50 Barbie doll, you do not buy that for a little girl to play with a give haircuts to.

And it’s not even the first Barbie to sport tattoos! There’s been at least two “temporary tattoo” Barbies AND a Hard Rock Cafe “Rockabilly” collector’s doll that had a sleeve!

What do you guys think? Should Barbie remain ink-free or are people just over-reacting?
