Anne Rice Says Lestat ‘Feels Sorry’ for Edward Cullen

Oh, Anne Rice. This can lead nowhere good.

The author of the best selling Vampire Chronicles took to her Facebook to post the following statement:

“Lestat and Louie feel sorry for vampires that sparkle in the sun. They would never hurt immortals who choose to spend eternity going to high school over and over again in a small town —- anymore than they would hurt the physically disabled or the mentally challenged. My vampires possess gravitas. They can afford to be merciful.”

That’s…wow. That’s not pulling punches at all. Previously, Rice had claimed she hadn’t read Stephenie Meyer’s vampire novels, but apparently she had a spare two hours to get through them at some point. And it looks like she didn’t like what she sees.

Rice isn’t the first author to go after Stephenie’s take on vampires, Stephen King famously commented on Twilight in 2009, saying “Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”

And now I’ve brought this fight to Buzznet for some reason. Possibly because the scariest thing I can imagine this Halloween is Twihards on the Attack.
