Amy Winehouse Album to be Released in December

After alcohol poisoning took the life of Amy Winehouse this summer we thought we’d never hear any new music from the singer again. But au contraire says her British label Island Records, who sent out a press release today saying that they would be releasing a collection of unheard studio tracks titled Lioness: Hidden Treasures, which will be released on December 5.

MTV is reporting that the tracks were compiled by frequent collaborators of Winehouse’s, producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. The album will include new versions of Amy’s hits such as “Tears Dry on Their Own” and “Valerie,” as well as covers of classics like the Shirelles’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” and a 2002 reggae version of the ’60s doo-wop song by Ruby & the Romantics “Our Day Will Come.”

“It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice,” read a statement about the new album. “It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend.”

$1.60 from each album sold will be donated to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity that helps kids and young adults who are battling addiction.
